It would have been nice if they'd told us that *before* hotel reservations went live in February.Mr Pilkington wrote:If you didn't already know:AWA is now 4 days!!
Anyway, I'll be there.

Yeah same here, otherwise I'd have booked everything a day earlier. I'll probably still be at the hotel early enough but I'd rather get there the day before the con than the day it starts. Oh well. Next year it is then.
Oh yeah and Pilk: When I sait at most 3 other I was talking about people that weren't Ruu-chan and Nate. Since he's in florida this year I'm carpoolin with different people. One is preggers and due in November so she may not be up for the trip, but I'll definitely have +2 with me.
Gimme a minute, I'll make a cool one....

Re: AWA Editors Dinner
I suspect it was a knee-jerk reaction to Momocon being 4 days. Momo also grew to exceed AWA this year just as projected, so the AWA people I can imagine are in a scramble to make up the difference.Scintilla wrote:It would have been nice if they'd told us that *before* hotel reservations went live in February.Mr Pilkington wrote:If you didn't already know:AWA is now 4 days!!

I normally discourage entourages, but +2 is not a terrible issue.SailorDeath wrote:Oh yeah and Pilk: When I sait at most 3 other I was talking about people that weren't Ruu-chan and Nate. Even if that grows to 3 I don't see it being a huge hindrance.

Re: AWA Editors Dinner
I've seen a few cons starting the get with the 4 day trend. AWA wants to be a cool kid! Also, you mean for AWA last year. AWA this year hasn't happened yet....or else this thread is way late.Mr Pilkington wrote: I suspect it was a knee-jerk reaction to Momocon being 4 days. Re: AWA Editors Dinner
Well considering the enormous spike in Momo attendance vs. AWA's fairly leisurely increases, it's fair to say AWA will be hurting just to break even this year. But only time will tell. Granted AWA being a primarily Anime oriented con and Momo being general geek culture it's easy to see why the number are what they are.
Still the move to 4 days seems both logical and kind of gimmicky.
Thursday has slowly grown at AWA over the past couple of years so it's only natural progression for the con, but the timing of the announcement is suspect. I know Momo had decided well more than a year prior to go Thursday-Sunday, and AWA just underwent a shift in management and focus.
Either way the results will be interesting.
I wonder if AWA can continue to hold onto a top ten spot after September.

Re: AWA Editors Dinner
I thought the numbers last year jumped a bit more than average 'cause of some of the guests or whatnot (EDIT - yea, about +2k over 2013). It's hard to keep track when some cons have started to fudge numbers by using turnstile attendance and not being exactly transparent about it

If it makes you feel any better, 2 of them are editors, they just generally don't hang out around here.Mr Pilkington wrote:I normally discourage entourages, but +2 is not a terrible issue.SailorDeath wrote:Oh yeah and Pilk: When I sait at most 3 other I was talking about people that weren't Ruu-chan and Nate. Re: AWA Editors Dinner
I will try to go unless my duties say otherwise...
And at present provided Pilk delivers on time .. I have no issues with providing programming space from 10 pm - 1ish
Most likely the room will play good selection of AMVs (free-play) during Thursday afternoon instead of more structured stuff..
For all those of you who have ideas or wanting to a panel or two, I'll open a separate thread within the next few days on that
