Then you run in the opposite direction, where too many entries will be in one combined category. At Nekocon 2008 my Dragon Ball Z video ("Earth's Last Hope") got royally screwed when the Upbeat and Action categories were combined and had 12 entries, and I ended up finishing a dull 6th out of 12, and two out of the top 3 videos were clearly upbeat videos, one using Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.dragontamer5788 wrote:Okay, as long as you're not really targeting anyone in particular.

As far as "Comedy" is concerned, maybe its a stigma of being "last" in the contest? Everyone knows that it is Comedy's job to "clean up" the contest, and maybe editors are too scared to submit to it? (or something). It might be a better idea to reorganize the categories, instead of complicating the rules. If Comedy doesn't get a lot of entries, maybe it should be "Upbeat / Comedy" as one category, and "Action / Dance" as another?
I would much rather have a more balanced set of categories, or at least minimize the lopsidedness that can happen occasionally when a lot of videos in a single category scored well enough to make finals (like what happened in 2012 for Otakon's contest).
