Re: AWA 2015 The Video Art Track - Deadlines AUG 30 & SEP 6
So I asked this question last year, but I'm asking again anyway... |:
Any chance I could send a video to both AWA Pro, and also NanDesuKan (NDK)? The contests are a few weeks apart and the video wouldn't be released till after AWA.
Yea, I see the rule about 'Right of First Exhibition' - just hoping there'd be some leeway this year. I just really prefer the AWA Pro contest over Expo. plskthxbbq?

Seconding this. I'm planning on attending NDK but I prefer entering Pro, it's probably my favorite contest to enter. However, since I'm going to NDK I'd like to have a new video to premiere there, so being able to do both would be convenient for me.Koopiskeva wrote:So I asked this question last year, but I'm asking again anyway... |:

This is something I've wanted in previous years as well, but I think I've seen it been shot down before unfortunately.

Nan Desu Kan is September 4-6, 2015, which is before AWA. A video shown at NDK would be ineligible for Pro or Masters at Anime Weekend Atlanta.
That said, NDK is beyond awesome, and if you prefer to send your video there, we support you! I'm rather jealous of those who can attend, and wish I could go myself. In any case, your video would still be welcome in the Expo at AWA, and we encourage you to send it to us as well!
It's funny, though the Expo was created as a reflection of Hollywood and the annual recognition of excellence in filmmaking, the contest has moved in another direction. Instead, the Expo seems to serve that role now, as one of the last major music video events of the year.
Good luck to y'all, wherever you enter your video.

Re: AWA 2015 The Video Art Track - Deadlines AUG 30 & SEP 6
IIRC, premiere isn't the real issue. Keeping your entry a secret from other Pro entrants is the goal. They just don't want to write a rule they can't enforce (which is kinda silly - we're a country of difficult to police laws backed by stiff deterrents to encourage compliance).
Hell, I get about 20% of pro submitted to me every year, and my deadline is over a month after Pro's, but people know I submit to it and know not to send their stuff to me beforehand. I bust my ass to process, prescreen, ballotize, and make sure the contest is ready in under 2 weeks just to ensure I get all the new entries and my contest isnt just a rehash of every other con for the previous 6 months. It's worth it.
I won't send nate all my stuff for Youmacon until after AWA for the same reason. That's the intent of the rules after all.

I thought NDK was around September 14 like the previous year... NDK at Sept 4-6 and AWA at Sept 24 is too big of a gap. I retract what I said...jingoro wrote:Nan Desu Kan is September 4-6, 2015

This is also why I try to keep our deadline long enough after AWA (or at least the pro voting period) as I canBasharOfTheAges wrote:I won't send nate all my stuff for Youmacon until after AWA for the same reason. That's the intent of the rules after all.
Though, not sure I'll even have something in pro this year. Haven't had the time or will to edit anything but stuff for my YT channel.
