blackhole
Been uninspired until all those Akross Con videos. This one I did for a special friend of mine who I consider a sister because she's been an inspiration for me in the editing community. I'm proud of this video because I did not give up or grow bored of it once during editing; and I know it's not professional, but I'm learning to accept minor issues otherwise I'll never release anything.

Woa nice! Why you haven't added some color correction with greatest impact at some points like the end?

Re: blackhole
I enjoyed this, but it feels that some of the scenes could be a tad different. Also, not professional? In what terms do you think professionalism is? And I'm not talking about VFX professionalism I'm talking about general editing. This seems professional to me, but a few things just needs to be improved that's all.
Also the ending feels the it could be better.

Sometimes dynamic scenes do not need additional correction. There is a thing called "overdoing" it, and on scenes containing an abundance of motion/colors, adding new colors/filters/pans will ultimately create a huge distraction.Finalamv wrote:Woa nice! That being said, I'm learning to adapt from mainstream editing into a "real project" mindset.
Thank you.Kisagi wrote:I enjoyed this, but it feels that some of the scenes could be a tad different.

Scene selection is never my area of expertise in editing for flow purposes because I'll overdo it, I guess.
And personally, endings are hardest. It's not that it's off from my original plan, it's because everything leading up to it from the 2min area until 2mins 12secs is hard to line up for the vision I had in mind.
For me, professionals are ones who have down color correction or zooms and know about camera angles. Those people envision an idea and create it with little difficulty; meanwhile, if not for tutorials on the Internet (and my willpower), I'd drop this in a heartbeat because I had to learn a bit of a new program for this. Plus, professionals typically know about lighting and/or its uses; I'm still learning in that area.Kisagi wrote:Also, not professional? In what terms do you think professionalism is? Not in my opinion. I could lengthen it, but I'd end up sacrificing my original idea for it because it'd be too long. The idea is buried in this video like a message, I guess; and if you gaze at it long enough you'll realize it says a bit about my experience editing, too.Kisagi wrote:This seems professional to me, but a few things just needs to be improved that's all.

Hmm? Are you talking about films in general or editing? lol
Well if both it takes many years to master and to make your own style out of it. Here's a tip, try not to make your video like someone else's. You can get ideas from them and make it your own because not everyone can be like Scorsese.

The Climax was phenomenal. Only thing I would change would be the first 30 seconds. The last scene also felt a tad off.

Re: blackhole
I liked it, but only after the drums kicked in and the pace picked up. It did end up feeling like a pretty standard Madoka video -- dark, seething, Madoka/Homura focus, which was kind of a disappointment as it didn't end up standing out from the crowd like I'd hoped. I wish also that you hadn't cut the song, because you definitely had something going here, and I think I would have ended up liking this quite a bit more if you had been able to keep up the pace for the entire song. As it is it feels more like a work-in-progress than a finished video, but one that's otherwise headed in the right direction.

Re: blackhole
I know, and I do; hell, quite a number of my inspirations are only their videos (one per editor) and not their style directly. It's not their bad editors, I only like their style on those songs/genre/anime. It's like I'm good in drama and I know I don't do good in action or horror or comedy because I neither like those genres in editing nor do I like horror in general (for anime itself).Kisagi wrote:Here's a tip, try not to make your video like someone else's. I apologize. Your English is a bit hard to understand. If English is not your first language, using Google translator will only do so much... It's not your fault, though.Finalamv wrote:I think you haven't understand what i meant
You know, I could care less on what is a "standard (insert anime) video" because if I don't edit something because it's been done by someone prior, I'd never edit a thing. Because it's all been done! Literally, no anime like this one is not mainstreamed into demise by now. This is why I normally don't edit airing anime either, because next thing I know, "it's all been done" will pop up as a comment and I will wish to kick their asses.CrackTheSky wrote:I liked it, but only after the drums kicked in and the pace picked up. That's not to say I don't like their criticism; I do. It's judging my video based off those "standard (insert anime) videos" which I dislike more. Sometimes it's refreshing to see someone edit a series which is overly hyped to a new song/genre and enjoy it at face value. After all, by now, people could be sick of Sailor Moon or DBZ videos, and still; people will watch every single one. Because each person handles its editing a little differently than others and viewpoints or opinions count too.
On the rest of your critique, I don't believe I'd ever edit beyond this point. No offense but even if this series has a lot of action, I'm focused on Homura here, and even she is limited on action scenes. Shorter videos receive negative reviews because of mainstream editors who abuse song cutting like I do. It's all about filling in a story within the area of song selected. I like shorter videos; longer ones can fall short in story or effort eventually.
