Cyberpunk AMV - Code Red: Melissa
I premiered this amv at AWA a few months ago, but just now got around to officially uploading it to AnimeMusicVideos.org (guess who got sidetracked lol). I made this as a tribute to the cyberpunk genre of anime. This amv is a big step for me in many ways -- it's my first experience making a 60fps amv and it's the first time I've edited from such a large pool of source footage (over 100 hrs worth in running time). I put a lot of time and effort in for this project and it was a lot of fun, despite the daunting scope of what I was trying to accomplish.
Hope ya'll like it! Feedback comments and opinions will be much appreciated! Thanks!

The video did feel unnecessarily long and dragged on a bit, but you did a really good job at editing it and transitioning between the different series from start to finish . The older ones like Akira and Bubblegun Crisis stood out just a little bit, but even they had really good transitions.

Not bad. I didn't think that the CGI/3-D stuff would work well with the traditional anime but you played them off each other pretty well. I wasn't expecting it at all but I preferred the CGI portions of this, which blended together better imho.
Hard to say what it is that I wanted to get from this that's not here. I do get the feeling that this more or less achieved the goals that you set out for it and it's really pretty! I don't feel much of an emotional response to it despite my unending nostalgia for the cyberpunk genre and my love of this song (this remix doesn't improve it but I guess it makes the song sound more "modern" or whatever, I don't know).
I certainly do think this is a keeper, though.

Thanks, I appreciate it I agree Akira and Bubblegum Crisis stood out a little next to the more contemporary sources. That was an issue I debated but given how iconic they are to the genre I felt they deserved a spot in it.kireblue wrote:The video did feel unnecessarily long and dragged on a bit, but you did a really good job at editing it and transitioning between the different series from start to finish . I do have a question for you, seeing as you're a staffer for Momocon. I've had a difficult time submitting this particular video to convention contests since most conventions have recently opted to introduce a 5-6 minute cap per entry. My video is only 13 seconds over the 6-minute mark but it's been 50-50 as far as conventions that are willing to make an exception for it. If this were a different project I would be willing to edit it down to meet the time duration requirements, but because of how I edited the whole video to flow sequence-to-sequence I haven't been any able to bring myself to cut anything out. I was curious if you had any thoughts or suggestions on the matter, especially since Momocon is one of the conventions that DID accept it -- thank you for that btw!

Hmmm. You could try speeding up your video by a very small percentage. I think that about 4% should be enough to shave off the extra 13 seconds without causing your song to sound weird (especially since its mostly instrumental and the vocals already have a pitch).
But yeah, MomoCon's limit is 8 minutes, so you were fine . Good luck in the contest!

its a bit chunky at the beginning flow-wise, after bout the 3 min mark onwards its kicking some ass around the 4 minute mark I forgot I don't like this music genre and started bouncing along. nice mix of old and new anime (very clean too).
new banzors in the making :p
