What does your AMV folder look like?

Post by exkcal » Tue Oct 04, 2016 3:08 am

Just a random thought in my head. How do others organize their stuff? Here is a picture of my AMV folder, I would love to see yours.

External Storage -> AMVs -> Series Name -> Series Name - Year - Studio - Creator - Title.ext

For example: ABCB -> AMVs -> Kimagure Orange Road -> Kimagure Orange Road - 1993 - Vlad G Pohnert - Orange Road.avi

Multi-anime AMVs are listed under Various as series.

For current projects:

ABCB -> Project Files -> Name of Project

That's it.

I have folders containing footage and project files on 3 different drives, it's a horrible mess that's gotten out of control.

My AMV folder, if you're talking the folder where I keep my projects, is a flat 1TB SSD with folders each containing their respected projects and the footage for said projects if there is room on the drive. I have a TON of projects here, some with premier timelines, some with just songs, all ideas either started or nearly finished. I have another folder on a backup drive which is my old completed projects where I save the project files though most of the footage is removed to save space (I can always re-rip the footage if needed)

If we're talking about the folder where I keep my AMVs, that's a pretty complicated setup. First, as I download new videos I put them in a folder on my main PC which is sorted by year downloaded and then by a few simple parameters, Adult, Top 10 (stuff that I REALLY LOVED), Good (good videos I think others will enjoy), Meh (neither good nor bad), Bad (not very good videos), and finally Stuff (odd, random videos, awesomecore not in other folders, ect.) Then once it's time to sort through the new batch of videos beyond the sorting already done I move them onto a folder in my AMV Archive drive (this drive is mirrored via bittorrensync between my server and 4 playback PCs) on my server called Unsorted. This folder is broken up into smaller folders with numbers on them to designate sets, each divided into 50 videos a piece, which is ready for sorting. Sorting consisted of compiling a ton of info about a video into an SQL database which holds searchable fields or tags such as genre, rating, and enjoyability factors. The database spits out a filename based on this info which is searchable on it's own merits and easy to find based on searching the database.

File name being: [Studio] Creator Name - Title [Format] [Video Type]

Currently the sorted folder has about 950 videos in it. The unsorted folder has about 4000 files in it. My new downloads folder will shortly have another 500+ videos in it thanks to my yearly raping of the org's hosting.

I am building a raid 5 storage array in the server rack bound on an iSCSI connection directly to my mainframe, all just to keep uncompressed source footage. The server rack currently houses my render farm and Cisco 6500 switch chassis, as well as a few low power dedicated ripping machines.

As far as AMV storage they exist.... :uhoh: totally unorganized in hard drives hidden all over the place.
My AMVS? Mostly deleted and for the betterment of humanity lost for all time.

If we are talking about where the AMVs I download are, then I'm lazy so I just have them all saved to my NAS in a single level. They are generally named as they were when I downloaded them unless the downloaded name was too generic in which case I usually include the editor and series if no title was officially given.
