Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Data Overload

After spending a few months trying to make a new amv, I finally got around to making one that I would be happy showcasing as well as entering into contest like Youmacon lol. I've been wanting to make an AMV based on the movie "Summer Wars" for a while, but never got around to it until now. It took me a while and a lot of trial and error, but I'm happy with the way it came out. Hope you guys like it & let me know what you think. :)

Goodness, the transitions and effects in this were just super. Very basic concept, just a straight-forward movie summary; I thought I knew what I was in for and I was basically right, but it was edited well enough to keep my interest from beginning to end. When people talk about "tight" editing, I think this is what they mean. Much more interesting than I was expecting and definitely worth stealing ideas from!

I dug this! I'm a sucker for hard cuts and I enjoyed things like the digital/pixel effects and the transitions in the second half. Wasn't a fan of the many short crossfades, andI do kind of wish it wasn't as straightforward of a retelling of the movie as much as a video that just went with the feel of the music, as most of the 'offline' scenes didn't really fit the mood of the song [Lots of countryside scenes than expected with this kind of song?] and ended up slowing parts of the video down. Cutting down the song a bit might have been a good idea so some of those scenes could have been dropped as well. I've looped this a couple times already though, and I'm glad Summer Wars is still inspiring some cool AMVs!

Also A+++ credit song choice

Thank you very much! I'm really glad you liked the editing. I actually tried to cut it down, but I didn't like it. Maybe I should have tried to cut it down in different parts to see if it would have worked. Yea I had to add that song during the credits. it was necessary!! :)
