VCA Updates, Questions & Feedback Thread

Forum rules
If there are videos that you'd like to nominate, you can use these topics post links to catalog entries (using the Video ID) in your posts. If you'd like to nominate a video that hasn't been entered into the site, you can still embed a youtube link of it, and ask the creator to catalog the video into our database. As long as the catalog entry uses its correct 2016 premiere date, and is entered before February 12, it will be allowed to compete in the 2017 VCAs.

VCA Updates, Questions & Feedback Thread

Post by Kireblue » Thu Jan 12, 2017 1:16 pm

Any Updates that the Administration needs to make for the VCAs will be posted here. Please not that the VCA schedule is subject to change, but we will do our best to prevent delays and adhere to it.

If you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free to post them here

VCA Schedule
Nomination Voting: 02/13/2017 - 02/27/2017
Semifinals Voting: 03/01/2017 - 03/15/2017
Finals Voting: 03/17/2017 - 03/27/2017

Updates

Removal of "Best First Video" Category
This category has always been a headache that required time and research to maintain. I felt that this category's true goal of awarding newcomers is achieved by the "Rookie of the Year" award.

Clarifying MEPs vs Collabs
In previous years, the distinctions between MEPs and collabs were vague and caused a lot of confusion. From now on, a collab will be defined as any video consisting of 2-3 editors. A MEP will be defined as any video consisting of 4 or more editors.

Removal of "Most Helpful Member" Category
This award has always been subject to personal bias and cliques. Also, the people most deserving of this award are often moderators that don't actually want to receive it.

Great news everyone! We're now allowing you to retroactively catalog videos for 2016! So if you missed the December 31st deadline for the VCAs, simply catalog your video for the correct date, or request a "Video Premiere Date Correction" here: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/bugs/vidinfo/

To ensure that we can have your video date corrected by the start of nomination voting, please have your videos cataloged and the correction request sent by February 11th. Please contact us asap if you have any questions or difficulties regarding this

So with that in mind, feel free to suggest videos in the nomination threads even if they don't have a catalog entry yet. If the editor catalogs their video by February 11th, it will still be eligible to compete in the 2017 VCAs.

Everything from 2016 should be encoded by noon tomorrow. The rest of the videos will be encoded in descending order by their (Bayesian) star rating. Any video with no star ratings has already been encoded.

The list is auto-generated by who has their first video premiering last year, according to the database. Although obviously this isn't a perfect determination, rather than having someone verify over 350 entries in the list (when they might not even get a nomination), I figured we could narrow it down after the nominations happen.

Ah, makes sense. I figured there was some sort of mechanism like that. Narrowing it down after the nominations does make a lot more sense than what I was thinking haha

[QUESTION]

Hello everyone! I always enjoy jumping in and voting during the semifinals for the VCA's, but each year I struggle with pulling down all the videos. I was wondering if there is an easy way to download all the nominees at once? Maybe a torrent for the semifinalists or some sort of super-queue button?

Just thought I'd ask!
