Need Masking Advice

Hey guys I am planning on doing a huge project probably the most complex I have ever made and it will be very heavy of masking animes together to create some epic fight scenes. But I am still a bit of a rookie at masking projects so I am asking for advice. what do you guys do when you want to take a single character from one anime and put them in the background of the other? I have both Adobe and Sony Movie Maker Plat. any advice will be helpful i want to do some crazy fight scenes and such please let me know. Thank you everyone.

Thanks Tritio it seemed pretty good I will be practicing with the methods he mentioned if anyone else has anything else always open for advise and suggestions
