Welcome to the AMV Contest, where the best AMV Editors show off their best stuff!
This year, the AMV Contest will be split into two contests: AMV and AMV 18+.
Application
All signups must be given by December 1st, 2018. Last submission accepted will be November 31st, 2018 at 11:59 PM ET.
Each entrant will be required to submit a public video link, and a private video link. For adult AMVs the public ink is not required.
Judging
Judging occurs during December 1st to December 13th. Winners will be announced during Opening Ceremonies, and will be displayed on our website and social media after Opening Ceremonies.
Requirements
Public links may have any bumpers, but must match the private link. Private videos need to be 720p, and must not be older than December 2017. Private videos need a Google Drive Link or Dropbox. Check the expanded rules for all restrictions and requirements for rules.

1. Definitions
These rules provide expanded information on how specifically the AMV Contest (hereafter referred to as the “Contest”) is run at the Event. Rules not outlined explicitly in this section, please refer to the “General Rules.”
2. Participation Requirements
Participants must apply online by December 1st, 2018 to be qualified for the Contest. Last application accepted must be submitted by November 31, 2018 at 11:59 PM ET. Applicants are not required to pre-purchase a pass to the convention. Physical awards can only be shipped to a US Address. Monetary awards will be sent via PayPal if not picked up at the Event, and the applicant is responsible with providing a PayPal address in order to give monetary awards.
3. General Video Submission Requirements
Each entry must include two videos in the submission. One video must be a public link (public or unlisted) on YouTube or Vimeo to the AMV Contest. The following restrictions apply to all private videos:
All content must be 100% Animated, and no Live Action AMVs will be accepted.
Content must include 80% Music (judged by frames without Music divided by total frames in the video). Spoken intros are permitted, but should fit into the 80% rule.
Parody/Anime Hell Videos do not have this restriction.
Videos must be 60 seconds to 360 seconds long.
During final announcements at Opening Ceremonies, AMV Videos may be cut down for time.
Parody/Anime Hell Videos may be 30 seconds to 360 seconds long.
Videos must be encoded in MP4, AVI, MOV, or MPG (Mpeg) formats. MP4 is highly recommended.
Videos must be encoded in a standard video codec. VLC Media Player will be used to play videos, and, in order to qualify, the video must be able to played on a machine that has a fresh install of VLC with no special Codec installs.
Videos must be encoded in NTSC format.
Videos must be encoded in 720p, 720i, 1080i, or 1080p resolution.
Videos must be encoded in 24, 29.97, or 30 frames per second.
Videos may be downsampled when displayed, but will be judged at the submitted resolution and framerate.
Videos must have at least 7 frames of black screen with no audio before and after the AMV.
Videos must not have logos or bumpers before or after the AMV.
Logos may be used in Anime Hell/Parody categories if they add to the AMV’s Content.
Copyrighted logos that are not the Anime Title are not permitted.
Not-Copyrighted/Self-Created Parody logos are permitted.
Videos must not have any visible watermarks (such as a Crunchyroll Watermark). Submitted videos with watermarks that denote pirated copies of Anime will disqualify all submissions from that same artist.
Videos must be of original material, created by the submitter. Any plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification of all entries.
Audio in videos must be clean, and must not have any “overloaded” audio, or “audio pops.”
Videos must not have any artifacts that disrupt the video playback.
Each video must also include a Public Version of the same video that can be posted publicly. The following restrictions apply to the video:
Public videos must be posted on Youtube or Vimeo.
Public Videos must be representative of the Private Video
Public Videos have no bumper or logo restrictions
Public Videos must be Public or Unlisted. Private links will be rejected.
Public Videos must only include only the video represented in the Private Video, but there are no time restrictions on the public video.
