Thank you to everyone who entered our AMV Contest, participated in our AMV Battle Royale, and attended our AMV Programming in 2018. We had a record number of editors show up too! All in all, it was another successful year and we are excited for 2019.

A big shout out to our staff including Vlad Pohnert for his time and effort hosting our AMV Battle Royale and some of our other AMV Programming and to our new member of AMV staff, Josh Bizer for stepping up to help with our workload. We could not have done this without either of you.

AMV Battle Royale!

We are currently looking for AMV Battle Royale Contestants on top of AMV Contest entries. In this event, we pitch 3 editors against each other in a 2 hour live editing competition. Tasha Livingstone is our reigning champion, and she will be coming back this year to defend her title. Here is her video from last year:

If you are at all interested in participating, please email us at amv@kumoricon.org. We will send you a list of rules and see if you meet the qualifications for being a contestant.

MAJOR RULE CHANGE

Due to much feedback, we have decided to open up our contest to non-Japanese sources, as long as they are anime/manga-styled. Notable exceptions include: Voltron: Legendary Defender, Teen Titans, Avatar: The Last Airbender, etc.

We are so excited to continue hosting some of the best AMVs and AMV programming in the world — and it's all thanks to you that we can make this possible. We look forward to seeing what you create!

Let the Games Begin!!!

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Here are this year’s rules! They can also be found on the Kumoricon AMV Contest page.

CATEGORIES:

We now have seven categories for the 2018 contest:

UPBEAT / FUN: We're looking for fast-paced enjoyment.
INTENSITY: Action, suspense, conflict, triumph, and despair!
DRAMA / SENTIMENTS: Give the audience the feels!
COMEDY / PARODY: Weird. Funny? Surprising!
TRAILERS: Short, sweet and to the point!
FAN FICTION: Rewrite the anime. Make your wildest dreams come true!
GUILTY PLEASURES: Delightfully annoying and cringey. Take the worst of pop culture and make it great.

CONTENT IS PG-13.
We try to run a clean show. This includes no themes likely to insult or disparage by race, social class, religion, ethnicity, gender, or sexuality—because that's no fun for anybody.

CONTEST RULES:

ANIME: are Japanese animated productions featuring hand-drawn or computer animation (video game footage is not anime).
The majority (over 50%) of your entry's video content must consist of anime-styled or manga-styled content. Consideration will be given to other non-Japanese sources that feature such styles (examples of exceptions include Voltron: Legendary Defender, Teen Titans, Avatar: The Last Airbender, etc.)

TV station logos ("bugs") and other commercial indices must be obscured or removed.

Bumpers and credits are NOT allowed as we will be adding custom-made intro and outro slates for each AMV finalist. There is an exception for AMV titles (NOT credits) that add to the overall message and purpose of your AMV.

Parody uses of commercial logos are acceptable.

No source subtitles allowed. Intentionally added subtitles are okay.

No more than 4 entries per person, with no more than 1 entry per Category.
Maximum file size: 330MB.
Maximum duration: 5:00 minutes.

HOW TO SUBMIT:

To submit, you MUST UPLOAD your file to the Kumoricon Submission page.

Your FILE NAME must include your AMV TITLE
Acceptable file formats are: avi, mpg, mp4, and mkv.
DO NOT send mov, rm, or wmv files.
Physical media (such as by mail) is NOT accepted at this contest.

***By submitting an AMV, you grant Kumoricon and the AMV Contest staff unconditional permission to use, copy, share and show that AMV.

DEADLINES:

Entries MUST be submitted by 4:30pm Pacific Daylight Time (UTC 23:30) on 01-September-2019.

A panel of judges will convene to review all entries and select up to six AMVs per category. The judges' decisions on the playlist is final.
All entries must have premiered or been created NO EARLIER than the previous year's Kumoricon (October 26, 2018).
Entries that have been finalists in previous Kumoricon contests are excluded from the 2019 contest.

PRIZES:

Each category will win one prize chosen by audience voting. The audience will also choose a Best of Show winner.
The coordinator/judges may make a Judges' Choice award, Technical Effects award, and Honorable Mention as well as any other awards they believe best represent the top AMVs shown at the contest.
Therefore, between seven prizes shall be awarded for 2019 with the potential to reach upwards of twelve prizes.

Each winner will receive a plaque or a trophy. A prize is usually an anime DVD or Blu-Ray, a manga, or an art book. Top prizes for Best In Show and Coordinator's Choice include anime figurines and/or other larger goodies.

Re: Kumoricon 2019 AMV Contest - OPEN for submissions!

Post by DopplerDo » Fri Mar 01, 2019 4:47 pm

I just want to 1) say Kumoricon is a total blast and a great convention, and 2) congratulate this con for getting it's stuff in order in MARCH, almost 7 months ahead of time. Seriously, more than the level of preparedness Kumoricon always has, the consistency with which the staff, contests, and events are organized is above-and-beyond expectations. All of you peeps behind the curtain, you guys are amazing -- thank you!!

Hello editors! We are less than 3 months away from the deadline for Kumoricon AMV submissions. We haven't received too many yet, so we highly encourage multiple submissions and also the submission of AWA Pro videos (as we won't be playing or revealing the finalists until after Anime Weekend Atlanta).

Thanks and best of luck!

Re: Kumoricon 2019 AMV Contest - DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 1ST!

Post by MinetChan » Sat Aug 17, 2019 2:03 pm

Two more weeks remaining! And we still need plenty of entries!

Remember, AWA Pro Submissions are accepted as none of our judges will be entering and because our convention occurs after AWA. You may submit up to 4 videos into separate categories.

Greetings everyone from Portland, Oregon!

We are excited to announce our AMV Contest playlist and winners for Kumoricon's 2019 AMV Contest and AMV Battle Royale. We had so many incredible entries this year — our over 750 attendees (our largest crowd yet) were impressed and let us know how proud they were of the talent on display. We also opened up our contest to Manga Music Videos (we had a total of 4 MMVs in our contest) as well as to other forms of anime-styled animation. We had such a diverse range of entries and we will definitely be allowing these entries for years to come.

Also, we are pleased to announce that we have developed our first ever Best In Show trophy! It will be shipped to Italy this year. :)

We couldn't have done this without our team of staffers, judges, and editors — thank you all so much for making this happen!
