Indeed. AX got rid of the current crew without having someone already lined up to fill in. More evidence that they had no specific direction they claimed they were going in.

I was really saddened and upset over what happened to the previous AMV crew and I only wish for the best for the new crew going forwards. I admit it was a hard to not submit this year. Its the only con I really submit too of my own accord. I don't believe I am the best editor out there and I know there are people far better at editing than myself. I didn't submit this year because a good friend asked me not to, along with unrelated reasons to the con amv contest itself (mostly computer related). But I was also extremely hurt about hearing what happened.
I haven't been able to attend AX since 2015 and the AMV contest was always fun to see. Definitely one of the highlights of the con for me. I know the contest has had its fair share f hiccups over the years. As I didn't attend this year I don't really know how the amv contest went. I did see the videos posted in the forum here and I can say there is some really promising editors and I am happy that they got to show their work at such a prestigious con. The new staff were given a less then great deal of cards handed to them but from the amvs I saw come out it I think they tried their darnest. I am saying this as an outsider as I didn't attend and see what went on. But for those who submitted keep up the good work and I am happy you guys got a chance to shine this year.
Nothing against my fellow amv editors and friends but Its nice to see other editors take the limelight and I know I win at cons sometimes but I am so happy to see some others works. It might not be under the best circumstances and I really hope for the best for the new crew and AX going forward. I hope this was a good learning experience for them. Thank you XStylus,Troy, Vlad, Rider and everyone else who worked on making the AX amv contest so amazing. I wish everyone the bets of luck in the future and I really hope things get better. no deserves to be treated so horribly and I honestly just hope the people running AX don't repeat what they did to the new crew. You are all amazing. Keep running amazing contests and making cons so much fun.
btw if anyone has links of a ballot of the whole amv list I'd like to see if so i can watch some of those entries too if possible.

I too would like to see the ballot list. I went for 20 years and AMV was the highlight of my time there along with hanging out with friends. I haven't gone the last two years because of stuff and things, but I'd still like to see the videos that went in.

Oh hey, just hopped back in the comments and saw you guys posted a good chunk of it. Thanx. But yeah, I wasn't impressed with this batch as some of the ones in the past. No shame to AMV creators that got in, but it wasn't popping like it has been before.

As for whether people wish to participate in AX in the future, or wish to continue to just write them off, that remains something I neither encourage or discourage. If you believe the new AMV team deserves your support despite the capriciousness of AX as a whole, feel free to send to them. On the other hand, if you feel that AX doesn't deserve the fruits of your work regardless of the earnestness of the new AMV team, feel free not to send to them.
Yeah but if the creators bounce from AX AMV contest the only people actually getting screwed are the fans. The fact is that most fans can't just go to another con to see the videos in this format. Although you get a large number of out of state con goers most of the tickets are purchased by in state locals. So it's not AX that gets the support when you send entries in, it's us. The fans.

Here are some pictures I took of the ballot

There's also a playlist already started, though not all entries are currently in it (either from not being uploaded yet or some difficulty in finding them)

I'd like to suggest to them a ballot with a bit more meat (info) on it, for both the fans and people who try to look up the videos. Maybe next time. Hopefully, the new coordinator can contact us and get some feedback for next year.

AX isn't the only convention around LA to watch a good AMV contest. Honestly, Anime Expo is probably the most expensive place to watch them. If AMVs are that important to fans they will find them.

As the one that's been putting together the playlist, finding some videos aren't that easy, as the only real information I have for most of them are basically the title and the creator (with me finding a lot of the videos via the latter). Also, even with the information of the song and anime source for some of the winners, it's still going to be hard if its a pairing that's been used in quite a few videos (thankfully, PleePlee posted his video on Reddit after the contest, making it easy for me to add that video to the list). I do agree that with next year's convention, there should be some information in terms of audio and video source alongside the AMV title and creator.

That's kinda the idea of why people do these strikes in the first place: by doing something that is an inconvenience to the public, it would hopefully cause the target of the strike to realize that they shouldn't take the protesters for granted and eventually give in to their demands. However, you do hit the same point as to why I'm against the idea of strikes: in the end, it is going to be consumer that loses.

If the consumer doesn't complain, then what need is there for the corporation to change?

AX used to be highly coveted because of the 6000+ audience attendance and the large venues they would play the contest in (Long Beach Terrace Theater, Nokia which is now Microsoft, etc).

I still got as much enjoyment when Anime LA was near LAX and it was a million times smoother to attend that contest.
