Disjointed [Liz and the Blue Bird amv]

Post by SaltAMV » Thu Dec 26, 2019 6:41 am

Hey what's gucci i'm gonna explain a little of what's going on in this video.

So i've been wanting to make another joji amv for a while now. "i don't wanna waste my time" is one of my favourites from joji so naturally i leaned towards it when planning begun. The choice of "Liz and the blue bird" may seem like a bad choice when taking a gander at the song's lyrics and yeah you might be right... unless? I watched this movie a while back and honestly i think i need to watch it again to really understand it and its ending. While i sort that out though i found that Mizore's side of the story was very lonely, outcast, isolated, unfulfilled, and unrequited. kind of a bleak outlook but it's the lens i used to work with this anime. so, i ran with it, and quickly got myself into a problem. i wanted to show the connections between mizore and nozomi and also the storybook of liz and the blue bird and "I don't wanna waste my time" wasn't gonna cut it.

lo and behold, a transition from one song to another haha! well, at first i was just going to ditch the whole project. Some may call it a bait-n-switch but i believe it fit's the title and theme like a glove. So i played around with this idea of a transition and i'm glad i did. I found the song "Blue Bird" by Vampire Weekend after watching Anthony Fantano, internets busiest music nerd's top 50 songs of 2019. I also decided i'd continue the themes of isolation and unrequited love in the second part. At the end of the movie mizore and nozomi manage to close the gap between themselves that had been getting wider and wider throughout the movie and i wanted to keep that resolution out.

okie dokie so there it is, a little insight into the making of this video. i do have more to say about this video but i'm not exactly great at putting my thoughts to words so it'd be one huge mess of a read. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this video though... perhaps you can see something in it that i can't or maybe missed. this video felt really personal and debated even promoting it anywhere other than my channel but regardless i always appreciate feedback and comments. Thanks for reading and i hope you enjoy!

It's good to see that people finally start realising what a musical genius joji is. Although I prefer one of his earlier masterpieces. Some of his newer stuff is good too but his earlier works are what set him apart as a musical genius.

Regarding your video I have to say I was a bit confused :uhoh: imo if you had sticked with just "i don't wanna waste my time" it would have made for a less confusing video but it was still nice to watch. really liked the way it ended and obviously the joji segment was great although maybe a bit convoluted with stuff like 00:27 to 00:30 I didn't understand the flower stuff but aside from that I enjoyed it.

Edit: I forgot that I wanted to mention that I also really enjoyed your "Do You Feel It?" video.

That song you linked really vibed with me, thank you. Joji has a really specific sound and i love his work.

Regarding your confusion, I understand and it was also a fear i had when making this. Switching up the song like that is not something i've ever done before however i think that it's a stepping stone for me in widening possibilities for future videos. Something along the lines of a series like tko03's "ADVENTURE" series. The flower section was a transition from mizore reading the book while also being an introduction to the storybook-esque art style that the movie switches to. I found the blue flower to be a nice connection to mizore y'know she's distinguished from the rest but all alone. hope that clears things up!

I've actually seen this anime a few months ago so I was not confused by the different anime styles shown. I enjoyed the overall mood and vibe of the video and it kept my attention until the end. It was a pretty good character piece and I think upon more watches I'll enjoy it even more.

Nice transition from one song to another but I see you have uploaded second part separately. It's beautiful, enjoyed it.

Thanks so much! I'm glad you like it! I did make a separate video for part two because i thought it deserved its own video. I still think both parts combined is the best way to watch it though :p
