Cowboy Bebop, Tears for Fears, and Pink Floyd: Everybody Wants to Rule the World; Time & Great Gig in the Sky [2 AMVs]

Post by Toji1996 » Sat Dec 25, 2021 1:59 am

After making quite a few (fairly heavy) Evangelion AMVs, I decided to go with something a little brighter and classic, setting Cowboy Bebop to Tears for Fears' Everybody Wants to Rule the World. Enjoy! |:> And Merry Christmas!

Update

Since there's a limit of one post a week and I'm going off the grid for a couple months, I'll add my runner-up AMV here. Almost immediately after finishing the series I received a copy of the Cowboy Bebop movie from a friend, and while watching I recognized the "Time" reference therein, and then I was immediately inspired to make an AMV. That was about one week ago before posting it, and I've got it done just in time before I head out. Overall, although it isn't by any means the most complex AMV, I enjoyed working on it. Especially once I got to the end of "Time" and decided I would add on "Great Gig in the Sky"... which in a way really surprised me. Enjoy! |:> And Happy New Year!

I feel really good after watching that. That was just... perfect. A wonderful video to a wonderful song that fits so well. I wasn't sure how to feel about the dub audio mixed in but I like that the more the video went on.

This!!!

Maybe I have a lot of Hype right now, but, I think this has been the best AMV I see this year
I think the most beautiful thing about this work is the structure, the edition is freer and less technical, I think this goes beyond a normal AMV, it is a piece of visual emotion.
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE

While the AMV as a whole didn't quite work for me (I generally don't like when full scenes and audio from the anime are included), there were a couple of magical moments in the middle (mostly between the 2 minute to the 4 minute mark) where it really clicked into place. These moments really felt like a deliberate dance of slow and fast scenes that somehow set the pacing of the AMV better than the music does. The slow movement of a cup in zero gravity to the cracking of the moon, the scene of Spike falling out of the broken window juxtaposed with the silly misfortunes of the crew, scenes of chaotic gunfire that transition into the majestic flying of Spikes red ship. They just somehow fit together to create this pretty incredible audiovisual experience. While I would have loved to like the rest of the AMV, overall I feel like you did a pretty great job here.

Thanks all for the kind words and feedback! Glad to hear about the emotional impact and pacing... after going at it for a while it's easy to get desensitized.

This might be strange to say, but I honestly felt like I was watching a Toonami style network promo for Cowboy Bebop. This was all around excellent. I do agree with Shade that the dub audio was a bit awkward, but I actually liked its inclusion. I just thought it was too quiet when it played behind the music. I thought it should either have been muted, or turned up so I could hear it better. It's only a small nitpick though, and it did not hurt my enjoyment. This was one hell of a vibe.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm really flattered to hear it compared to a Toonami promo. I haven't seen those in a long time and checked one out after reading this ("Dreams") and man, that was really something.

Also: today I finished another Cowboy Bebop AMV for Pink Floyd. Link above in this thread.

"Everybody wants to rule the world" just feels right. So well done. The audio from the show was mixed quite well with the music. There was only a couple small parts where it felt a little cluttered to me but was overall well incorporated and gave it the classic feel that the song was presenting. As Silk said the levels on some of it may have needed some work as well. It's helpful to try and find a baseline Peak level for your Music and adjust as needed using the audio meters, and then when mixing the underlying audio trying to also keep it to a consistent peak dB level. It well help everything be more cohesive.

there was also really great internal sync and shape/directional transitions. It felt really great.

I haven't watched the second yet I will post again if I do :)

Got done watching your Pink Floyd videos, and I was interested from start to finish.

When I was watching them it got me thinking, that it's perfectly fine to make a video like this that's slow and mellow. I guess its my personal preference but it was a relaxing and engaging experience watching that video. Really can't describe it, its the story you wanted to tell and I really enjoyed how you pieced it together. It just seemed to blend so well with the narrative you wanted to say. Nothing felt out of order, it was made to flow with this song. I'm sure there are people who might say that you need to be in a certain state of mind to watching it (like maybe high as hell lol), but for me it just floated you through. I'm not the biggest Pink Floyd fan, but I just wanna say I enjoyed it, its different and cool in its own way.

I dig it brother 8-)
