Tora-Con 2023 AMV Contest - Deadline Feb 4th
Hello everyone!
The Tora-Con AMV Contest is finally back after a multi-year hiatus!
We are opening a bit late this year, and our deadline for submissions is just one month away. Sorry for the short notice! But if anyone has some AMVs already created and ready to go, I hope you will consider sending it in. The contest will close on February 4th.
Important notice!
Part of the reason we did not have a contest last year, and are opening so late this year, is due to some new restrictions we had to write into the contest rules. Tora-Con is a convention run by students at the Rochester Institute of Technology, and these changes were required by the university. The biggest change is that we can now only accept AMVs created by editors 18 years old or older. Another thing that tends to throw people off is that our contest must be "family-friendly", and as such, our content guidelines are quite strict. Please read over our contest rules carefully before submitting!
With all that in mind, if anyone would like to participate, we would love to see what you got!

My favorite contest. Just something quickie: at least for this year I dont consider necessary to let videos from 2021 to participate. There are already several good videos from 2022. The community has been pretty active enough this year

Hello! I'm sure what you've said is correct. We typically just set the contest rules to say "within the last 2 years" every year by default though. In addition, we did not have a contest last year, so even 2021 videos would likely be fresh for our audience. Regardless, any changes to the rules (even dates) would require another review from the university which we definitely don't want to go through again this year!

Did I mention that our college's legal team had to review and approve all of our contest's rules?
They require that section to be in there so that if for some reason, a music or production/distribution studio were to sue the convention (and therefore, the college) over the AMV Contest, they could point to this and say "Oh, but the editors claimed they had permission and we took them at their word". I personally don't believe that would hold up in court, but I am Not a Lawyer. Realistically, no one cares about AMV Contests and no one is going to ask you to actually do this.
