The Otakon programming schedule can be found here:
https://conventions.leapevent.tech/schedule/Otakon_2024

AMV Contest Winners will be announced/played Sunday at 1:15pm.

New info will be added here as it is finalized.

AMV CONTEST FINALISTS
The AMV Contest will be screened 4 times, all in AMV Theater:
Friday 11:30am-2:00pm
Friday 8:30pm-11:00pm
Saturday 10:45am-1:15pm
Saturday 8:30pm-11:00pm
The contest itself is 2 hours long. The first 30 minutes are reserved for seating
All 4 screenings will allow for audience voting.

After much deliberation, here are the finalists for the 2024 AMV Contest. We are only announcing the studio names, not the videos, though studios are welcome to announce their own videos if they'd like, we're not going to out you.

AMV Contest non-finalists will be screened 9AM-11:30am Friday, and 2:30pm-4:00pm Sunday. Each screening will show different videos, though we're prioritizing ones submitted by creators in attendance. If a video already played, we will not be screening it again, as we received way more entries than we have time to show!

Note that if there's a "(D)" next to the studio, their entry was technically disqualified for objectionable content, though we're finding a home for it in AMVs After Dark, so said studios will be entitled to creator ribbons, just like everyone else who submitted.

AMV CONTEST ENTRANT RIBBONS
Everyone who submitted an AMV to the Otakon 2024 AMV Contest, finalist or not, is entitled to 3 "creator ribbons". These ribbons allow you to skip the line for any 2024 AMV Contest screening, and the 2024 AMV Contest Awards. It also allows you access to reserved seating at the aforementioned events.

Ribbons can be picked up AT AMV THEATER. NOT PROGRAMMING OPS ANYMORE! We have at-least 1 person posted at the door during all operating hours, and they will be able to ribbon you.

The ribbons are not consumable. They are good all weekend long. You get 3 ribbons so that you can give them out and sit with your friends (though only the creator will be allowed to pick them up, so bring something with your real name on it).

The ribbons are not replacements for an Otakon membership. You still need to have a badge granting you access to the convention, to get your ribbons.

-----------------------

IRON EDITOR
Image
Who:
BecauseImBored1 is sitting this one out, so SpuddStaaa will be taking on Drabaz to determine a new Iron Editor champion!

What:
Two AMV editors race to complete an AMV in under 2 hours. No pressure. There will also be plenty of audience participation events.

How?
Each contestant will be given 6 anime sources, and all 6 must be used. Each contestant is allowed to cut their audio ahead of time and bring it with them to the event. They may bring multiple tracks if they so desire, as no audio will be provided during the event. In addition, each editor must use at least 1 second of EACH secret ingredient.

Sources:
This year's theme is "Girls Do a Sport", and the sources are as follows:
Birdie Wing
Harukana Receive
Hanebado!
Iwa Kakeru! Sport Climbing Girls
Keijo!!!!!!!!
Plus the Secret Source!

When and Where:
Saturday, August 3rd, 5:45pm, AMV Theater (time and date subject to change).

-----------------------

AMV HELL 8
The Otakon AMV Theater is extremely honored to have the opportunity to screen the world premiere of AMV HELL 8.

AMV Hell 8 will be screened twice:
Friday 5:45pm-7:15pm
Saturday 4:00pm-5:30pm
It is the same AMV Hell 8 at both screenings. We only have 666 chairs, and I have a feeling we're going to need the repeat showing!

The first screening (Friday) will be video recorded by request of the AMV Hell team, so that audience feedback can be used to refine AMV Hell 8.5. It will be dark, and if the AMV Hell team decides to distribute a portion of this video, your face will be blurred out. Still, if you do not feel comfortable with this, the Saturday screening will NOT be recorded.

AMV CONTEST RULES(DEADLINE PASSED. PLEASE NO MORE AMVS!)

https://www.otakon.com/activities/amv-contest/

-----------------------

SUBMIT AN AMV-RELATED PANEL (DEADLINE PASSED)
If you're interested in submitting a panel for Otakon 2024's AMV Theater, you should register through the "normal" Otakon means here:
https://www.otakon.com/activities/panels/
The descriptions are a little dated so the years are wrong, but the rest of the information is accurate. The deadline to register for a panel is 5/13/2024.

When submitting a panel suggestion, there is a drop-down asking "What kind of programming do you want to bring to Otakon?" If you choose "a video focused presentation", that's code for "Hey AMV Theater, notice me Senpai."

Note that we do present non-AMV events in AMV Theater, if they are panels that are A/V heavy. Sometimes we even just talk about Space for an hour.

The rules SHOULD be up by 4/22.

However, here are some of the important bits that will LIKELY not change:
Deadline is Monday June 24.
Anti-trolling deadline is June 13th (if your entry won a major award prior to this date, it will be screened as a non-contest-finalist).
The 1-video-per-person limit is still a thing.

I have a question about on-screen text.
The rules mention studio/website logos and non-original subtitles as things that will DQ you, but what about credits (without logos) that are part of the original anime footage? For example, if the AMV contains shots from the very start of an episode where the project name and key staff names appear on screen over the footage.
I've seen different contests have different stances on this so I'm just seeking some clarification before I attempt to censor the text.
