So how do you do it?

Post by Aneino_Kaijin » Thu Jul 25, 2002 6:47 am

I've been told that I need to work on originality. So here's my question to you. How do you make sure your idea is *original*? Do you worry about it?

Also, is there any way to make AVIs that are not enormous (as compared to WMV)? Thanks!

Hehehe... being original is the most difficult process in making an AMV (but generally, anything art-related).
You should try to watch at thing from different angles, and see if you can drop something in a context completely different from where it belongs. Watch other videos and try to think "How can I possibly improve this?"... walk out and take inspiration from books, movies, people.
That's how much I can tell you... the rest is up to you, it's a tough call but I bet you can do it with some pratice ;)

Btw, to compress your avi files please refer to ErMaC's guide on this same site or read the Unofficial AMV FAQ (link below) :)
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

"I'm gonna take this song and this anme and make something that R0XX0Rz!!!!!11" = unoriginal product

"Wow, listening to this song, I can so totally see these scenes from that thing I just watched. I could put this there... and this would bo so cool when played alongside of that - oh, and that'd be a powerful ending!" = a chance at an original product

I don't worry about ideas being original... mainly because the ideas I'm coming up with at the moment are just too damn weird for anyone to have thought of them.

As for what you can do to prevent yourself from not making original videos?

Easy - listen to obscure music and watch obscure anime :P

Just think about the concept and if anyone else has done anything else like it. Not just music to anime, but style and story and progression and execution. Really, it's not THAT hard to be original if you just try and make your video seem different from what is allready out there.

Orginality has been something that has been haunting me for a long time, if it isn't a unoriginal anime it is a unoriginal song. I am so close to just completly ignoreing this.

This would work if half the people had a clue on how to write reviews ^^.

That's considered original!!

Yes, originality is something that is hard to accomplish. Very hard to accomplish. Just doing something that no one else has done or ever thought of. The viewing public needs something fresh, new, and original. This can be done by watching a whole lot of videos. Watch the best ones to see why they're so good. Watch the worst ones and see why they're so.... you know.... Then watch the ones in the middle to see why it wasn't so great. Finally, think about what the videos had in common and put them in catagories. Then work on something different from the norm, something that wasn't done. When you say,"YES!! That hasn't been done before!!! hehhehe" Then you'll more than likely create something original. But hey, I do mine for fun even if they're not original... And also, I just started doing this stuff back in January. The struggle continues!

Originality comes from the voices I hear in my head....

IF YOU MAKE IT

THEY WILL WATCH

Some people will say you are unoriginal if you use an anime that has been done too many times or a song that has been done too many times, but if you don't really know any other animes besides the really popular ones then there is not much you can do besides watch not so well known ones. However, you can take an overused title and give it an original spin. One example is to make the story being told different from the actual story involved in the anime. Another example would be Tainted Donuts or Dragon Bebop Z. They took overused animes and mixed them together to tell amusing stories. Those are just a couple examples of the many ways to make overused animes original.
