I'll say. I finally got to see "Beboppin'" and the Beautiful Dreamer AMVs on the big screen.

Ohayocon AMV contest results/FAQ

Yep, that was me who posted on Aod. Sorry about taking so long to post here but I thought I already did during the process of wrapping up and sending out all the thank you emails.

First, I would like to thank all those who submitted entries. I thought that the quality of the contest was pretty high such that even the overflow screening was better than the first Ohayocon AMV contest.

Q: What happened to audience voting?
A: I had another staff member who was handling publications and printing for the convention print out the ballot sheets and during the process of bringing everything to the hotel they got lost. The sheets were not found until a couple hours after the abrupt second showing of the AMV contest which made audience voting a moot issue. I was going out of my mind trying to run video programming and tearing the hotel apart trying to find them.

The other bad thing about not having the sheets is that the attendies didn't know what was coming up or how much longer the contest was going to run.

My method for madness in voting was to have the audience vote for multiple videos in each category (even though only 1 would win) so I could get better feedback for the AMV contestants. I was also planning to have 2 extra staff picks for those that were not originally chosen but deserved some recognition.

Q: So who voted?
A: It was a combination of those on the AMV and video programming staff.

Q: Will this SNAFU with the voting happen again?
A: I'll make sure to personally print out the ballots next time.

Q: Why was the second showing late/cut short?
A: We couldn't get the hotel to open the doors until an hour after the second showing was supposed to start Saturday morning. I was as surprised as anyone that the second showing was cut short. There was supposed to be a con guest panel right after the second showing and and since we were running late the guest relations head made the decision, without consulting me, to cut the second showing short. Fucking Bitch!

Q: So who really won?
A:Trailer: (Metro Productions) Pokemon Never Die - various
Drama: (Michael Montanye) Gods and Mortals - Ah My Goddess
Whacked: (cxib) none - Urusei Yatsura Beautiful Dreamer
Action/Upbeat: (Ijouhassei Productions) Foreseen Companions - Gasaraki
Humor/Parody: (Indifferent Productions) Everybody's Free (To Watch Anime) - Various

Q: Why wasn't there titles before the Trailers?
A: I felt it was more effective to play them back to back without any breaks other than some black to give the audience so time to cheer and settle down. I did list the information for all 5 of them in the closing credits.

Q: What was with the "Whacked" category?
A: Those videos really weren't fitting anywhere else too well and I didn't feel like calling the category "Artistic" or "Trippy".

Q: Can I get a list of everything that was in the contest/overflow showings?
A: I sent the two files containing the contest and overflow sheets to the Ohayocon webmaster to post up in the AMV section of the website.

Q: What anime footage did you open the contest with?
A: Macross Zero. I thought it would be a good way to make sure that I had the audiences attention before the contest started.

C: The contest was too long!
A: Looking back I was trying to accomodate as many people/entries as possible and should've cut the Drama category by 2 videos and the Action/Upbeat category by 1 to bring the contest under 2.5 hrs. In doing so it would have increased the overflow to 2 hrs.

If there is anything that I haven't covered that you still have questions/comments about let me know.

I certainly didn't think the contest was too long; if anything, it was a nicely manageable size. 2.5 to 3 hours is plenty good, I think.

yeah, 3 hours is nothing compared to sitting through everything at AWA.

I had the same seat from the beginning of the amv contest til the end of Animation hell. You know how long that was? If I can 'marathon sit', anyone can and no one should complain about just the amv contest.

I figure anime fans should be used to sitting in one place, staring at a screen for hours on end.

Does anyone know where I can download "Doug Vander Hoek" Coldplay "Trouble" GMV to "Final Fantasy X". I thought that was a really good video.. especially for a Final Fantasy video. I'm not sure where to look.. I couldn't find his web-presence any where.. maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.

Hi, I'm new to the forums and this will be the first thing I write on them...Ohayocon 2003 was my (and my friend who was with me) first con, and it was great! I saw almost most of the AMV's they were showing and my favs there were: Kylie Minogue-Cant get you outta my head (Cowboy Bebop), The Happy Happy Joy Joy Song, DJ Sammy- Heaven (Oh My Goddess)...sorry but that's all I remember  . I went to Anime Hell, which was unforgettable (we rocked the house with those GI JOE slogans!). I was at the voice acting/direction panel and had sum fun messing with the director's head (kept on quoting Monty Python at him and the audience). I bought Brad DeMoss's dvd (it's good!) I got to the semi finals in the Tekken 4 tournament (and to all those kids who were calling me cheap for using Eddy/Christie...shuddap!) All in all, this was a very awesome first con! I'll definately be going to the next one!
Sorry I'm late, I was out saving your lives.....in the future!
