I'd have to say country, or salsa or zydeco music.

Well, go hunt through the archives and count all the salsa and zydeco AMVs. Maybe I'm wrong.

Don't tell that to MANGA or CENTRAL PARK MEDIA.
Several of their early trailers are set to Heavy Metal.

But to answer you question, there is no genre that can't be used. There are simply some you DON'T WANT TO USE! (i.e. country/rap)

RAP, hell yeah you can use rap, even gangsta' rap. NWA.

But starwire, especially the salsa music. Unless maybe you use some hentai (but it can't be that crazy Japanese tentacle sex hentai)

Country would be a bitch, but rap.... with the right settings I think it can be pulled off quite well. But then again I'm slightly bias.

I've seen a good AMV done to a rap song (Natural Born Killers) edited by BeoWulf but I haven't seen a good AMV come out of country yet. None that I remember that is. Besides, Anime just doesn't seem to fit the country theme very well.

Shania Twain doesn't seem to agree with you, what with her video quoted almost directly from Bubblegum Crisis. Of course, some people think her music doesn't fit the country theme very well either.

Hardcore hip-hop.

Country is kinda easy to put in cause it fits with funnier scenes. There's a good salsa song in Excel Saga that works perfectly. And Heavy Metal shows up in alot of Anime-style games, so I'm sure it works in Anime too.
