I see it more like free rentals myself. Although its not like you can waltz into the local blockbuster and rent them (Especially TV series).

On the subject, I don't like to see subs poping up in AMV's unless they're put in for effect (Like that one liner put into 'The truth about Totoro' comes to mind). Just a little bit of subbing will do nicely if used right (Which is usually made instead of taken from a subbed vid). Well those are my thoughts at least.

oh btw, I would just like to add that I get the feeling that evan a good video made with fansubs would get a person flamed right out of the boards.

I really don't see a reason why anyone would use fansubs, unless its an EXTREMELY rare title that just doesnt hardly exist anywhere else. It's not all that hard to find raw footage. Now people will come up and tell you you shouldn't use downloaded footage at all because it sucks, but hey, if you dont tell them you used downloaded footage, then 97% of the people here wouldn't even know. Now of course dvd is better (and harder to work with), it just depends how far you're willing to go for quality.

Personally I think fansubs are OK until they start being released, as opposed to when they are announced, (in the case of Nelvana picking it up until another company releases a decent version).

"Not Another One!" was made purely with downloaded footage on a 533mhz Celeron. It has 2600 downloads. Its all in the quality of the idea behind the vid.

this guy is going to be banned by phade, because the rules specificaly say that you cannot make vids with downloaded footage.

Ouch, sorry. I was gonna cut some of the lines, but I decided against it. Plus, I overanticipated. Oh well! Lessons learnt for next time  Hey, at least I didn't use the Flame Template
