I've had a Proview 15" (PL541) for 14 months. It's multiplexed between two PCs, so it's running from 1 to 6 hours a day. I've had zero problems with it. All the pixels are still working, too. It was $299 at a local department store.

I wouldn't use it for vid-editing or games, but for Web browsing and office-type s/w, it's good enough.

I heard that Proview also makes the Mag Innovision monitors, if that helps.

Check out Eizo or Iiyama as well as Samsung. Don't go Sony. Not only are they overpriced but they also have some of the most lagging technology. What you are looking for:

Contrast Ratio >= 500:1
Response time <= 25ms TOTAL (some companies like to split this up into rise and fall time, add them up)

I would mention color fidelity but if you were to believe the specs there is no difference between any LCDs here. This you have to see for yourself. Tom's Hardware has a bunch of great comparisons that you should check out (www.tomshardware.com).

Oh, and Viewsonic lies about their contrast ratio specs.

Why would you waste your efforts finding a decent LCD anyways? I use two of these bad mama jamas, and seem to be doing just fine. Unless you count the desk I shattered, I should have known a glass computer desk wasn't going to hold 150lbs worth of monitory-goodness forever. Oh well, a few dings and scratches but otherwise they are fine now.

But hell if you want LCD far be it for me to try to stop you. I just see not the point in wasting money.[/url]
