If that. Last year at Otakon only about 700 people voted.

Many more people saw the contest.
I didn't vote! I was jaded by the fact that my crappy newbie self did not make the contest. lol. Man, I must have been smoking something that year. Good thing I did not make it too. It humbeled me enought to actually go and learn about what I was doing.

Being knocked on your ass every now and then is a good thing.

If AX were willing to shell out the money for it, a scantron could run the system awfully quickly. Or at least the newer ones so it could tally for you how many chose video A B or C. Scantron sheets come fairly cheap and the only hassel would be collecting them.

Hey, that is a good idea. Now everyone just needs a number 2 pencil, hehe.

5000 #2 pencils please!

or better yet, AX has money, they are SO commercial they must have it. They could setup a PC station where each con badge has a number on the back. You go to the PC enter in your number, then make your choices. Then you don't need to worry about counting, let the PC go it for you.

Still, I think it will be quicker and more efficient than hand counting. Staples has 72 #2 pencils for $3, that means you have to buy this package about 70 times, times three dollars, that's about $210. For the contest and a more efficient voting method isn't half bad.

Course if the audience doesn't like the results you've now provided them with lots of tiny sharp projectiles.

Oh crap.

I better avoid making a video that'll piss off the crowd.

There is nothing commercial about AX. It is still a fan run convention operated entirely by unpaid volunteers. The only difference between AX and Otakon is that AX has more industry connections, especially abroad. No other convention comes even remotely close to having the kind of presence from the Japanese side of the industry than AX. Hence, yeah they suck up to the corporates a lot. They wouldn't get the guests and industry presence that they currently enjoy if they didn't. The downside is that a few of the gray-area activities have to be shoved into a corner (note that I didn't say "eliminated"), but that in my opinion is a very small price to pay.

Would you rather AX not have any industry presence at all? Would you like them to tell the corporations to just piss off and have Anime Expos without Guests of Honor or studio panelists, and simply run a bunch of fan-panels and show fansubs in the video rooms all day? Come to think of it, that just about describes a few of the smaller cons out there...
