Ho boy, I hope you are wearing your fire proof underwear. As you might expect this has been asked before. Use the search. Read the guides.

First, try using the search button. Seeing your inability to use punctuation and correct spelling, I'll spell it out for you. S-E-A-R-C-H. Ok, now that I've got that off my chest, try Windows Movie Maker (shudder). That and Cinelerra (sp?) are the only free editors I know of. Cinelerra only works in Linux though. For Windows, go with Premiere, buggy as it is. Macs should use Final Cut Pro.
There's a fine line between genius insanity...and I've crossed it 67 times.

I've heard so many great things about this and how NOT buggy it is like Premiere. If I had a ton of money I would buy an iBook and Final Cut Pro 3.0. I've heard it's 10 times better than Premiere. You can have like 100 video layers without massive slowdown, etc. etc.Macs should use Final Cut Pro.

I think the only thing that comes to mind besides Windows Movie Maker would be Cinerella.... but for that, you need to be running Linux.
Not that this is in any way a bad thing, but I would somewhat suspect that if you're asking this question- you aren't.

I'm rather surprised this hasn't gotten Mod'd yet.
I would counter the suggestion to download Premiere from Kazaa with the suggestion that you simply go to Adobe's website and download the demo version of Premiere and try it out. I'll even give you think link to their demo download page- it's here. You should (with a bit of experimenting and help from people here if you need it) be able to make a video with it before the demo expires (hint- don't download/install it until you have all your footage ripped and ready to start editing), and then you can decide if you think you want to shell out the money for it. If you are (and can prove) you're a student, it's not that bad- you can get the whole Adobe suite for around $500.
