Is this chant getting old or what?!

Post by genestarwind21122 » Fri Mar 14, 2003 11:31 pm

I was wondering how many of you are tired of hearing the "chair chant " at the conventions. Mr.Oni don't say a word to you know who. Anyway let me know. I'm just curious because it has been going on for a while. Maybe I should "Rock Bottom" the Pikachu if they do that game again this year for the heck of it.

I know a lot of the people who run conventions are very annoyed with the chair chant.

Most people don't even know where the chair chant came from, but they chant it anyway because they want to proove quite quickly what eager little sheep they are.

At Fanime, they did a death to chair skit.

Chair was funny when it happened, but it stopped being funny after a while and now it's very annoying.

I would love it if people didn't chant anything. Replacing the word "Chair" with another noun is actually worse.

Kinda reminds me of the scene in Monty Python's Life of Brian where everyone is arguing if they should follow the gourd or the shoe (and so on)

I would urge to anyone who goes to a convention to NOT chant Chair (or any other known)... I know the people who run the cons and even some of the guests would appretiate it.

There are two kinds of people in this world:
Those who divide people into two kinds of groups
and those who don't.

I agree.

I agree with you. I mean what if you were that person that started up that chant as a joke but now it willn't leave you alone. So for whoever started this chant I hope it stops for you.

whoa...I have no idea what the chair chant is...
I must go to the wrong events at cons or simply be regularly too drunk to know what's going on....

It happens during cosplays. The origin was some con (reports vary as to which) years ago where a staffer put a chair onstage at one point, and not much else happened for a while. (some holdup or something)

Anyway, people started cheering for it and it became a celebrity/icon. :P

I don't think I've ever heard this chant at ACen. Weird...I must not go to the right cons...or rather I do :-P. See Tim, another reason to come to ACen :-P

Once again, Anime Central conlicts with Anime North.
Tell those punks to shape up. ;)

Oh trust me, I've been talking to them about changing a couple things, but this is not one of them...sorry.

Although it would've been highly unlikely that I'd go (even in the near future), I hope it doesn't continue to be this way since I'd like to go to Canada some time (and what better than a con heh). I guess I'll see you, Vlad and the other Canadians at AWA :-P But apparently Vlad sucks (from previous thread in Contests haha)
