I think that it's great to start off with a smaller program. The bigger programs take a while to save up for it. Instead of just waiting around, you can practice by building models with a smaller program... that way you can easily learn the larger program's functions and you will understand how these things work right off the bat. It looks like you don't mind paying alot of money, so it would make sense not to mind this eithermarquis24 wrote:kamoc just because i am new to 3d animation does not mean i want to start with some lame ass 3 rate 3d program. When i started doing anime music videos i didnt have a clue how to make them i researched and found out what i needed and what was thye best. I bought adobe premire right off the back.I bought the book read guides and toyed with it until i learned how to use it. It took me 4 months to figure out how to get video into premire on my own. I plan on doing the same ting with my 3d video program and bottom of the barrel programs wont cut it for me. hard work patience and dedication pay off in any endevor you choose to do. Besides if it is similar to 3d max that would be a waste of 200 dollars that could have went toward max. I dont have a problem paying the money if it is warrented and worth it. Also if i spend the extra money I wil be more motivated to use and learn the program because i have so much invested into it. I appreciate you bringing this program to my attention but it dosent fit the bill for what i want.
A:M is a great program (besides my buggyness encounter). People who use it made great movies and images.

plus it has the toon shading option, which recreates the appearence of an anime character on a 3d surface. if you don't want to take the time to check out the program, then that's fine with me. just don't blame me for not doing it. i got it at siggraph and it didn't shut down nearly as much as gadoo is complaining it does.
if you want to get the shit scared out of you on your first trial run then get the learners edition of maya. it's free so you don't have to complain at all. plus, it'll show you that 3d modeling is not as simple as it looks; click, drag, fill, paint, bam. animation master teaches you bone structure, easy layout, and basic functions of controls; essentials in the modeling world.
i don't think you want to sit on this thing. if you're going to go all out with 3ds max, then you might want to try looking at what you're buying. one big mess. sort it out; right now it just sounds like you want to get the biggest, baddest piece of equipment out there and 'mess around with it' for as long as it takes. well, considering the fact that it took you 4 months to get the hang of premiere, that's going to be a very long time. i suggest getting 'some lame ass rate 3d program' to get the feel of it so that you won't be completely lost when you load up 3ds max.
but of course, if you want to waste $500 that's fine with me.
