Simpi wrote:I'm laughing to Donald Rumsfeld how he suddenly 're-discovered' Geneva Convention when he said he was angry that Iraq showed images of POWs on tv. He was correct, believe it or not.
And that violates the Geneva convention, due to the POWs being used as government propaganda. Additionally, if they are shown to be under duress, that too, is a violation.
Simpi wrote:Well, CNN (among others) showed long colums of iraqi prisoners being lead away, lying at sand and being strip searched. I believe this could be classified 'humiliating' also. POW is a bargaining tool, propaganda weapon and morale booster all rolled into one and images of enemy prisoners keep homefront happy.
CNN is a private media organization, and as such is not held to the Geneva convention. For that matter, did they zoom in and linger on faces, or did they do general wide angle shots? Did they beat any of these Iraqi prisoners? Did they torture and then interrogate them in a torturous manner? Basically, CNN was just reporting the news, and not even in a bad fashion - they certainly weren't violently forcing information out of them.

That's the difference.
Simpi wrote:Some said that american POWs did not deserve their fate. Seriously people, if you would see a soldier of an invading army, would you not shoot on sight?
Yes, and you do it ON THE FUCKING BATTLEFIELD. You don't take them home, like Danny said, and play with them like a cat plays with a mouse before it kills it.
I'm out...

Take this elsewhere Buddykiller. Use PMs if you're gung-ho about being a jerk, that way only 1 member of the board will see it.

HOW 'BOUT THIS ONE!
Hitler was a human. Stalin was a human. Saddam is a human. (insert random evil asshole here) was/is a human.
LETS KILL ALL THE HUMANS!
They have it coming to them, you know! Prancing around like they own the place, changing and destroying anything in and around their environment at their sole discretion, killing whomever they want whenever they want; humans are wretched creatures, the scourge of the Earth.
Now give me one good reason why humans should not be exterminated.

NOW, if you could comprehend my little satire, you would feel a little enlightened right now. If not, you are stupid and should be beaten with any of a wide variety of blunt and/or semi-blunt objects.
This place is such a shit-hole.

i do see your point, basicly being that the iraqi's did push it showing pain, suffering, basicly video that could have been from the faces of death video series, but the one thing i find wrong with your statement is that while iraqi state ran television did record and air this american pow footage, it was the other network (al aziar or some shit like that) that got the blame for it because they showed the footage outside iraq and broadcasted it to all the arab nations and cnn, msnbc, ect... and that is who their saying broke the genova convention, not iraqi state run tv, cnn was questioned about showing iraqi pows by the represenative of the arabic news channel and responded that because they didn't show it outside the usa (meaning on their international channels) they had not broken the genova convention, so maybe under these guidelines (and i'm just making a guess here, i know nothing about this shit) iraqi state run tv didn't break the genova convention, also a bright side to this pow video that i heard on msnbc last night, at least we can hold them accountable for these pows, they can't say "uh we don't have them" because we know for a fact that they do, so maybe it's not as bad as everybody's making it out to be?

Dannywilson wrote:Yes. I would shoot on sight. I would not, however, return them to my base, shoot some of them in the head, gut some, and slash the other's throats, while videotaping the whole process, and air it on national TV.
I have not seen all parts of the footage but I have not seen ANY news that would indicate those POWs would have been killed after combat (some reported shot in the forehead but people do get shot in the head in war). Most likely some bodies were taken as propaganda tools after combat.

If you'd say what is true, then every news agency around the world would be writing about it all the time.
