hey,

I just finished ordering the parts for my new computer. I am woundering what operating system you guys would recommend. I hear Xp and premiere don't mix well, so am thinking of avoiding it. My first choice right now is win 2000. What do you guys think?

I've personally had problems with Premiere and XP Pro, but I'm going to try XP Pro Enterprize this time. My dad is ordering the parts soon for my new PC, if anything happens to screw up, I'll just downgrade to 2000.

I'd recommend Windows 2000 -- Windows XP can be really, really annoying. Just yesterday I managed to fire off 120 "serious error" reports to Microsoft and BSOD the bastard five times (in the space of ten minutes! This by opening a #*(%*( web browser!)

Anyway, yeah, that's XP -- more cruft, no more functionality. Win2K's a good, stable bet.

I hate j00 evil WinXP.

Don't know why I "upgraded" to it anyways

Was on a whim. Sasami2k doesn't want to work right and over all shit seems more clunky.

Stick with Win2k and get SP3. Very nice...

I haven’t had any problems with Win XP and Premiere. However I am using XP Home edition. (XP pro won't even install with my capture in the PC) On the one hand XP does seem like a kiddy version of Win2K but after using it for a while it has some nice extras. - For example if you have a whole mess of pics to print it has a built in feature to help - (how many pics per page, what size prints, etc)

I'm using XP on this laptop right now and it's never crashed once. I plan on installing it on my home machine when I do a complete rebuild from the ground up come December. XP has several things I like (better multi-monitor support, which means I don't have to have 2 separate video cards anymore, ClearType which makes things much easier to read, better international support which is important since I do a lot of work in Japanese) that Win2K either doesn't have or doesn't do as well.

Win2K is sweetness for me, although it'll be cut loose by Microsoft shortly.

I would say Win2000 100%. I have XP on this thing right now, and the only thing it has done is make me eXtra Pissed. For anyone thinking of going with XP be sure to check out your hardware, a lot of hardware has no drivers for XP yet.

I've got XP on this thing now (Upgraded a couple of days ago), I've had no crashes yet. Premiere doesn't crash. Well, it does, but only when I export into ASF format, but that's for 56kers. I'm exporting for my vids into HuffYUV, no crashes.
