Your ACen badge said that? I've had Ninja Gaijin screwed up into Ninja Gaiden (b/c they know better than me) just like EVERY FREAKING person thinks I made a typo.

YES IT IS GAIJIN.

I didn't go through all that trouble in photoshop to change the chinese character for den -> jin for nothing :).

The old argument is pretty much a dead horse now; I just wanted to say that that song has been stuck in my head ALL FREAKING DAY. Cheers. 8)

Ok it seems like I missed the party so to speak, I actually quit reading after page 4 since I kind of got the general direction the replies were headed into. The person I agree with most is Machine though.

This is the climax of the current AMV-direction, there's a lot of flashiness going on and there are a lot of nice (and very impressive mind you, some of these effects made me blush) effects happening, but I'm missing the point and anything that has to do with an ounce of inspiration (no offence). Where was the last video that had a good concept and actually had effects that had a point? That would have to be "Truth about totoro" or "Shameless rock video". I'm not saying my videos are great or anything and I know I haven't made anything in ages so don't look at me for being the guru of inspiration. There just seems to be a lot of the same stereotype stuff going around. Take the multi-editor projects, sure they're nice and all and there are a lot of flashy colors and people dancing which is nice and to the point ... but why are a people making the smae thing over and over? Why are people so prone to trends and uninventive ... But that's kind of drifting. My point is, ok you matched all the beats nicely and you have nice and flashy colors but there isn't an ounce of originality in the video or in a lot of the videos in the past half year. I mean there's a concept in there and everything but it's drowned for no reason in a lot of flashing. Now I don't want to sound pretentious and all but take the clip "No surprises" by radiohead, nothing happens but it's intresting for 3 minutes and is really inventive and artistic, where have you seen anyhting like that before? I'm just waiting for the next AMV editor to break away from the conventional flashy, effecty, happy bullshit and actually make something that awes me and doesn't make me feel like I'm watching the same video with a different song and different source for the x'th time on loop...

Ok I got a little carried away, but I hope I made my point.

Point taken Paul.

However, the video can only be as artistic or imaginative as you're willing it to be. Whichever way you look at ANY video, they can have as much meaning or be as artistic and be as inventive as you're willing to see it. Take my Rei-mix for example, there was a point to most, if not all the effects I used in it. It's as original and inventive to me as I had envisioned it to be in my head. I'm just saying that I did not make the video to be 'happy bullshit' or to follow the 'trend.' I made the video because I enjoyed it and this is the style I chose because it is what I wanted to see no matter how unimaginative it might seem to you or others. To me, the effects enhance the experience of viewing the video. The fact that you feel that it drowns it only shows that you probably came in with certain expectations already and you did not allow yourself to just enjoy the moment. There's nothing wrong with letting your guard down and seeing videos for the sake of enjoying the experience of viewing it without having to compare it with everything else you've seen or want to see. All I'm saying is, just enjoy the experience and don't be so critical about what others do. I'd try to defend my creativity on this, but it doesn't matter what I say, you'll see what you want to see regardless of what I say.

Thanks again for the mini-rant/review. I just hope you enjoyed watching it to some extent at least.

Who says a video needs to be original to be enjoyable?

I guess I agree with both of you. I see Paul's points, but at the same time, I think Koop is right too. Let me explain:

Basically, Paul sees Koops video a certain way and when Koop made it he, he wanted to create a certain something. It just (unfortunately) happens that your tastes don't align. The way I see it, you're both right since Paul can feel that way since it is his opinion...he shouldn't have to be forced to like something, but at the same time I feel Jay is correct too since he did nothing wrong. He just made what he wanted to...which is the point of this.

Basically I'm trying to say we shouldnt have to force our views on each other since this is fundamentally about someone wanting to share something that they find special. We aren't obligated to like it, but I do feel we should respect each other. Given, I don't think you're being disrespectful (in fact your post is just you speaking your mind), but I just felt it needed to be said.

just downloaded the vid. It looked great, best effects video I've ever seen.
