The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

I don't know either.. I'm not familiar with the Adobe programs, but I don't doubt it could be done.

Could probably create some image masks in Photoshop (the shapes he has), import those on a video layer, create some motion settings and voila....now that is OVERLY simplified since you would need to probably do a lot of frame by frame editing. However, I think you could do a primitive version of these in Premiere.

Now After Effects is a different story altogether. More power, but at the same time added complexity. (shrug).

However, the video can only be as artistic or imaginative as you're willing it to be. Whichever way you look at ANY video, they can have as much meaning or be as artistic and be as inventive as you're willing to see it. Take my Rei-mix for example, there was a point to most, if not all the effects I used in it. It's as original and inventive to me as I had envisioned it to be in my head. I'm just saying that I did not make the video to be 'happy bullshit' or to follow the 'trend.' I made the video because I enjoyed it and this is the style I chose because it is what I wanted to see no matter how unimaginative it might seem to you or others. To me, the effects enhance the experience of viewing the video. The fact that you feel that it drowns it only shows that you probably came in with certain expectations already and you did not allow yourself to just enjoy the moment. There's nothing wrong with letting your guard down and seeing videos for the sake of enjoying the experience of viewing it without having to compare it with everything else you've seen or want to see. All I'm saying is, just enjoy the experience and don't be so critical about what others do. I'd try to defend my creativity on this, but it doesn't matter what I say, you'll see what you want to see regardless of what I say.

Thanks again for the mini-rant/review. I just hope you enjoyed watching it to some extent at least.
Ok clever counterargument.

First off ... don't get me wrong, I quite enjoyed your video it's just that there were too much effects for my liking. From an objective point of view (taking personal taste aside) this is probably one of the better videos of the last few months, a lot of sweat, blood and tears obviously went into this video so I commend you.

Now ... if this is what you set out to do exactly, and this is your artistic vision, than by all means go for it. My opinion is just a little way to show people what I like and try to budge them in any given direction, if you don't agree and find the video enjoyable to make and to your taste pleasing, please continue doing so. It's just that this was the proverbial drop, it's just that I've seen so many clones upon clones of other videos that my head is starting to explode and the tons of effects in this video (of which alot were original which deserves my compliments) just made me put down my rant. Perhaps this rant would have been more in place with a much worse or even mediocre video but somehow I chose this, so don't be offended and all.

The thing is just I yearn for an original concept, something that truely makes me think: "Wow, now this was clever". The video I relate to most in this case is "This is DBZ life" by Scott Melzer, that had everything, genius editing and a great concept, but how long ago has that been? 2-3 years at least, in the mean time there have been a lot of very exciting videos but nothing that could grip me as much. Why is it so hard to come up with something original? Pre-production should be much higher on people's lists, not just "oh I could put a lip-sync here", or: "Hey I could make a love video of character x and character y". I wish people would set out with something original and really inventive. Think movies ... The red jacket in Shindler's list, the zaniness in being John malkovich, the last round of the boxing match in Snatch, reqiuem for a dream in it's entirety or even an old movie like Citizen kane which had a brilliant scene with the opera singer (I forgot her name) and the lightbulb lighting up amongst other scenes. It's just the big question, why can't there be AMV's like that?

Now if I'd sen this video as a complete n00b to AMV watching or I hadn't seen as much videos as I have, I'd be dancing on the ceiling with delight but it just seems like more of the same. It's just that this video is well timed and has very impressive effects, this causes it to exceed mediocricy and actually be something very impressive for the video's I've seen lately, it just lacks the true original concept which seems to be lingering in limbo amongst AMV creators ... so it's not a personal thing at all, your video is way above the standard of the last few months, it's just a little rant on how I'd love to see something inventive appearing...
