Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Ah, heh... you guys aren't getting it, but that's okay. I can't expect you to understand, it just comes naturally to you.

Well, at least, can you appreciate the ability you have? That would be a good thing... It's depressing to see all of you go, "Oh sure, piece of cake," when some of us just cannot, ever, do one-tenth of what you're doing. And of course it doesn't matter, ...meh. Forget it.

And I know it wasn't personal. Heck, who even knows who these little people are, let alone bothers to insult them? Just that from on high everything looks easy, and they forget that most people just don't have the skills they do. I guess it's my fault for even thinking that we're all in the same category as AMVers. There are the good people, and there are the lamers. And they shouldn't even be compared in any way whatsoever.

*nods* Right. The plebe will shut up now. :)

Wow you really have a confidence issue on your AMVs :-P. What is it we're missing...I've read mine as well as other's posts and it seems like they are directly trying to rebut what you are saying.

I hate to say it, but you're right, we're not all equal in our abilities, be it with AMVs, writing, drawing, etc. It's what we do with those abilities that counts.

At the same time, I think what Vlad says is correct. I think all of us are capable of envisioning something and executing on it. Now if that vision is something HUGE and extravagant like SRV, Euphoria, etc. or something similar with straight cuts and transitions is another story, but I think we are all capable of making something beautiful...well at least to ourselves. I think this is a great hobby and it's even better how we can share our works with each other regardless of how grandiose it may be. I think we should be glad to even do something like this and have fun. (shrug)

Well, actually it may suprise you that it does not come naturally to me and some may thing and I must fight and work hard and long hours to get my ideas to be possible and to turn out right....

d00dette, none of this comes natural. I don't think anyone was born with an innate ability to edit video. It's something that comes from extreme interest and hard work and dedication. Same with your novel example. I doubt a lot of people here could write a good fanfic, let alone a novel. Why? That's not where their interests lie. These guys (and gals) that make the "l33t" videos don't really mean it when they say it's a piece of cake, but that's because they already have learned the programs, processes, theories and whatnot that go along with editing.

Also, your novel scenario is a little biased, too. You're telling us to write a great novel *BAM!* instantaneously. Koop didn't make his video instantaneously. How long exactly did you work on this video, Koop? I think about 5 months? So, it takes a lot of time and effort. It's not like he did this in a week.

Huh? I'm in the same boat as you. I was just cracking a joke ;)

I mean, when it comes to stuff like this, it's best to just ignore it. Someday everyone gets their 15 minutes of fame. Yours will be coming soon.

Goddamnit, I sound like Andy Warhol in a fortune cookie.

Ehh... as a future writer, Sarah, I can say that even that wouldn't be easy. It takes time and thought, not to mention quite a bit of skill and knowledge of the mechanics involved. A video is much the same. You need the time, patience, vision, and knowledge of the mechanics. I'm quite sure all of these people have a bit more knowledge of the technical aspects of video editing than I do, not to mention skill. While I might exceed them in writing ability.

So my point is... to create a true work that people can enjoy takes effort and is seldom easy. :?

That was my point. People say "Oh, just go and make a video like 'Euphoria', all it takes is time and effort," when that's not the case. Takes a heck of a lot more than sitting there staring at the screen.

It was a parallel, you know? ;) AMVing is easy to everyone here, so I picked a creative exploit that might not come as easy to them as breathing. Maybe the metaphor didn't work. ahem.

I thought I addressed your analogy quite clearly...guess not :(.

If you think it's possible for ANYONE, right off the street, to just waltz in and make a great video... if you still swallow that "Go ahead, newb, try your best and someday you'll be great too!" line of bull, then you didn't get what I was trying to say. Or I didn't express it right. Whichever. :?

And the "OMG OMG IT TOOK LIEK 5 MOS" bit makes me laugh. It took me four months to make the video I just finished, and it's utter shit.

Eh, anyway. The "OMG it takes like effort and stuff" - What, and you think us newbie wastes don't slave over our crappy videos? I probably put in a hundred hours of editing on this pile of crap I just finished. And it STILL sucks. I just don't have whatever "it" is.

Anyway, I've learned my lesson, that there is the Good world of AMVing, and there is the shitty newb world of AMVing. And all we should do is bow and scrape and say "OMG wonderful" and that's it. Because statements like "All it takes is effort and time and vision" just forget that people like us exist, that's all. Fair enough. To them, we don't exist, and frankly I don't blame them. :)

I'll shut up now, I promise. No more from the plebe.
