I'd bet most people just don't know about the series and jump to conclusions about something they do know. (Maybe they think it's doujinshi or fanart.) Just keep the usual assumption that everyone is a moron, and it all makes sense.

And you went through too much trouble because you used a video editing program instead of a image editing program to make your animated gif. It was the process of animating it that was too much trouble.
