Well the art IS old. The show is pretty old so that might be it.

You know... the age for sexual consent in Japan was 13 for a very long time. Only recently has it been upped to 16.

In America, the age that a boy become a man is supposed to be 18, but in Japan it's 15.

That's why many of the heroes in Japanese anime (be it Hikaru from Macross or Shinji from EVA) are often 15 (assuming of course that the anime has the theme of the child becoming an adult)

Actually, there wasn't one until the early 90s, or so I recall reading. Then they moved it up to 13, and now 16.

The Far East still seems to have a problem with pedophilia, though...

I can't claim to be an expert, because I certainly am not... but I know the age thing was in effect when I was in college in the late 80s. (I don't know if it was 13 or 16, but it was in effect)
