Best Special Features/Extra's in an anime DVD

Post by CaTaClYsM » Sun Apr 20, 2003 11:33 pm

What anime DVD's went above and beyond the call of duty in the extra's department?
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

-Cowboy Bebop's Session 0 with the voice actors, creators, etc. It was originally one giant Session, but it's split over the discs...no big deal.

-Vision of Escaflowne's "Club Escaflowne." In particular the one with Vaughn, Hitomi, Merle and Folken's VAs.
-Daniel

Berserk, while having crappy visual quality, had the HILARIOUS bloopers reel of the actors messing up and goofing off. Griffith broke into song twice.

Impressive Extras
Burn Up Excess, Jiggle counter  (actually it's quite lame, but they had good intentions)
Gunsmith Cats, I dunno, there was just something about the making of GSC video
FLCL, Pillows MV, Japanese commentory, dub-it-yourself track that little inlay-book-thing
Akira, Two English dubs... if that's your thing
Ah My Goddess movie, First episode of mini-goddess, even if it is dubbed

And now for the anti-extras
Vandread, nothing... at all, shocking subs
Burn UP W, No japanese audio track
Burn Up Excess, I guess they tried to make up for W by putting a Spanish track on there as well... fucking waste
Ah My Goddess OAV, NTSC :? , besides dub-it-yourself, no real extras
Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust, No japanese audio track
Spriggan, Commentary: let's comment on our voice actors
Noir, Fucking Madman. Forget the glasses for the orange/pink thing.
...that's all I can think of right now.

speaking of too many language tracks, the R1s of Eva had Spanish and French :|
But hey, not a complete waste, I got to show the first two episodes to my spanish class back in 8th grade. Only two of us were paying attention, but oh well.

I personally love the outtakes on the Kenshin DVDs. The best has to be the last DVD in the Kyoto series. "Its all about the bling - bling!"
"What about us lesbians? . . . Your gonna burn in hell of course!" - MXC
"Hey dont knock masturbation, its sex with someone I love!" -- Woody Allen
"Evil will always triumph 'cuz good is dumb!" - Dark Helmet

Excel Saga, for its pop-up vidnotes alone. Plus, plenty of goofy shit tacked on for the hell of it, for example the "find the urinal cake" game. I loved how if you missed and chose wrong, it had a crowd chanting "bullshit!". Fantastic.

Thats because there wasn't a Japanese dub until long after the origional release. If memory serves me right, it was theatrically released in Japan dubbed in english with japanese/korean subs. Of course I could be wrong.
