Anime Expo Exposed?

Post by EarthCurrent » Thu Apr 24, 2003 5:30 pm

I griped briefly about my increased distaste for AX and the direction it has gone in recent years in an earlier thread, so I'll direct you there if you want to read about it. But it would seem according to this summary from Anime News Network, regarding a post made to AX's forum by Mike Tatsugawa that there may indeed be something funny going on behind the scenes of AX.

Of course this could also just be petty name calling, or he could be the first one to willingly admit that the ship is indeed sinking or at the very least begining to flounder.

There's a simple solution to their problem:

Someone needs to call the Feds to investigate the shady money handling.
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."

Actually according to ANN the SPJA has a tax audit coming up so that will shed light on things. As far as the post goes, I think things are a bit blown out of proportion but I am betting there are some truths to some things which would explain a few complaints abou AX in the past. Judging from the AMV contest though, this year should be significant improvement, let's hope so.

Well here is AX's Board of Director's official response to Mike's allegations:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=3511

Personally I was a bit disappointed by it as its tone seemed like that of an emotionally distraught and whining 8 year old.

Instead of coming out and trying to sound objective an neutral, they engage in legal threats and additional fingerpointing.

Real mature coming from a "professional" organization's governing body.

Talk about over reacting...

Wow, it looks to me like the SPJA is doing its best to cover its ass in this case by going out of their way to higher a Law Firm and investigate Mr. Tatsugawa in this case.

A 'professional' organization would simply higher an accounting firm to audit themselves, then publish the record of the audit. Hidding behind an audit is much easier on Public Relations then going after them with a law suit.

Indeed, it should make you wonder. Running to a lawyer is usually the first reaction of a guilty party, or at least someone who isn't sure about the exact legality of their actions.
