What animes have been dubbed poorly?

Post by shocker » Fri Apr 25, 2003 11:18 am

If there is one for good dubs, here's one for bad dubs. I'm expecting many for this one. For bad dubs, I have two: Candidate for Goddess (the worst of the worst) and Inu Yasha (I haven't seen the subbed episodes, but when I watch it on CN, They do make some errors with matching the characters mouths).

I have heard that Love Hina has a bad dub. I haven't seen it dubbed, but I'll take everyone's word for it.

TheLove Hina dub is indeed aweful. I wanted to burn them after hearing poor Shinobu's voice.

Neon Genesis is poor as well. UGH. I also can't stand Trigun's dub either, but that just be me.

I've heard the Trigun dub was good. I thought it wasn't bad either.

I don't watch dubs, but the few times I've seen them on TV or something that sucked were:

-Neon Genesis Evangelion - this doesn't do justice to the show and yes it does detract THAT much from the show. Sad since the characters are the most important part of the show and they are conveyed poorly and thus the show suffers.
-Vision of Escaflowne - Similar to Eva in that the voices were totally inaccurate. Hitomi sounded like a Valley girl, Vaughn couldn't scream or sound serious, Dilandau sounded like a 5 y/o boy and the best one...Vegeta's VA from the Dragonball Z dub did Allen Schezar...a kind knight.
-Rurouni Kenshin - As I stated in an earlier thread, the voices, accents and mannerisms are needed for this show to work. Accents like Osaka-ben and Kenshin's "polite/humble" mannerisms are absolutely necessary to fully appreciate the show. It does take place during Meiji and it makes no sense with the crappiness they did int he dub.
-Akira (1st version) - I don't think anyone will disagree.
-Trigun....not THAT bad, but still bad.

That's all I can think of for now.

I disagree, I mention this in the other thread. I liked the first version.

:D I love reading your post. Anyway, the first version of Akira was the first anime I bought I loved it from the start. I have no problems with it, so I have sentimental values stuck with it. So i'll defend it.

I don't blame you. This may come to a shock to many (namely Atomic and Pyro who see my rants everywhere), but I actually :gasp: liked the Ranma dub. I saw it WAY back when and it's sentimental to me. Now would I watch it over the sub...maybe. Some of the voices are "wrong" and not that accurate, but at the same time...voices like Kuno and Nabiki were hilarious. Either way..I understand the sentimental thingy....it tends to blind us from the truth :-P

Going along with the dubs though, one I always found funny is one from DBZ. When Goku is explaning the stages of SS and Buu says it like you would in Japanese. Weird. "Supa Saijin?"
