Sigh...another sub/dub war...
When I got into anime 15 years ago, people argued over the same thing, fancy that.

Yet, today I still see the same arguments and defenses being raised.

One would think that people would have come up with something new to say by now but they haven't.

It makes me wonder why any of you on either side of the fence would act like you have some sort of high ground to stand upon.

Tired b/c the "arguments" I get are usually illogical and a "the world revolves around me" argument (as UncleMilo noted). I also hope people know that as I have said A NUMBER of times (although it doesn't help apparently) that you're free to like what you want. I am just stating my opinion (and respect for creators) that I think is valid.

As strange as it sounds coming from someone who fervently argues it...I'm tired of it too. I do agree that it's a circle and that no one "wins" perse, but I always have that slight hope that someone sees my (logical) points at the very least. I don't at all mean to CHANGE your mind, but I do expect the courtesy to listen...which I'm not seeing...and hence the replies (since I see real stupid and half-assed statements).

Like I said..I apologize for that, but I am fairly fervent (duh) about this b/c of my respect for art/creations and keeping things undisturbed.

meh, that should be expected any time your dealing with people. not jsut on the forum, but any where, never once expect to hear a cohereant thought stream out of a persons mouth on find it's way onto a peice of paper, this way you won't have to worry about being dissapointed. And if you do find some form or logic or reason comong from someone you can take it as a reason to celebrate. Now jsut because i'm saying this dosn't mean 1/5 of what i say makes any sense. I'm still human, therefore i'm still ignorant, annoying and deplorable. Sorry for dragging my views on human nature onto this thread ...

hmm about the whole dub, sub, circle arguments ... your only a few days off from being here one year more then me ... i would assume that you have been arguing your position on dubs from the beggining, or very close to it. I've been here almost 2 months and i'm getting sick of the endless arguments, i can imagine how you feel about it.

Oh come on...

You should know that people are like that all the time!

The same arguments over many things come up over and over again. Just look at the news!

It's human nature... unfortunately

Sorry, but arguing your opinion about subs/dubs on a forum is not going to win over converts. So if you are indeed genuinely tired, retire from the war, and learn to hold your tongue, even when people say things you might disagree with. And that goes for most all of you... :?

Oh please.

I've been dealing with the dub/sub thing for ages. I have been an anime fan longer than some of the people on this board have been alive! I've listened to the dub/sub thing for over 16 years!

I prefer subs... and I'm a god-damn voice actor for the English dubs. I've been called an enemy of anime by the sub extremists for being an English voice actor and I have been harassed by the dub fans for supporting subs.

I will never shut up.

I will never back down in the face of the armies of the stupid.

You just have to keep talking, hoping that you might reach 1 in tens of thousands.

Furthermore... I might also point out with EACH NEW TITLE that comes to America, there will be a new discussion about the quality of the dub of that title... so the sub/dub theme will always rear its ugly head so long as anime comes to America.

(and wow... maybe some people will even talk about bad dub jobs of other foriegn films... you know... the non-animated kind)

Most of my Voice Acting has been "walla" work, which is what they call the background voice actors. I'm in crowd shots and I get to do the occasional one liners.

I was William Morris in Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories
Gordo the Bear in Fist of the North Star (TV series)
and George in NieA_7

I've done walla in many anime titles including The Big O, the new dub of Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Mysterious Play, Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket and many, many episodes of Fist of the North Star.

My resume is at

Sub vs dub wars should be a mute point after the release of dvds but unfortunately they just got more venomous. If it's a bad dub it's a bad dub. Usually If I watched something subbed first and am used to the voices I don't like listening to the dubs. But there are certain dubs that are just bad not because they are dubs but just because they are horrible jobs. Example would be Vandread not a bad job but I prefer the subs. Now love hina that's a horrible job. Alot of bad dubs use the same people over and over again to play different characters. Don't ever let Wendee Lee direct an anime dubbing job again please god.
