A group of people from various backgrounds, likes, dislikes, and experience judged all 51 entries and rated them from 1 ("I want to rip my eyes out!") to 10 ("Marry me. Be my love monkey!"). The scores were averaged together and then the videos ranked from 1 to 51. After that was done, I knew some videos would obviously be in the finals and some would not...but the middle of the field was a jumble and I wasn't able to determine exactly how many videos I would be able to fit until I actually assembled the DVDs, put in the intro, put in the title screens, and put in the recap.
