Which animes have been dubbed well?

Best point ever! Yep if you want america to accept anime it will have to be dubbed anime.

No,I surprisingly agree. Dubbed anime on Cartoon Network is the reason for it becoming more mainstream. I do agree that dubbing is necessary for our country to accept anime like it has. I know it might be different in other countries where reading subtitles is normal, but our country is used to this.

Don't get me wrong, I know there is a necessity for dubs within our society, but I still feel the way I do about subs/raw regardless. In most cases, people start with dubs and move on to subs anyway, so the point is m00t. Dubs get them in, they move on to subs, we're both happy

Actually, in the late 80's, the Boston Japanimation Society was watching most anime titles in raw Japanese with a mere sheet of paper to explain what was going on...

Sometimes there was a guy talking over the anime to help explain the scenes with some detail.

In fact, this was a major stepping stone for my friend Neil to get to his current position as a translator and subtitler.

Dubs will make more people aware of anime... but subtitled anime (and anime in raw Japanese) was coming to America and reaching some of the original, older anime fans and was what inspired people to form companies to bring more anime to America.

OMG! I never knew your translator friend was Neil Nadelman (I'm thinking it's him). This is a weird twist of fate b/c my friend is Dave Flemming (did Escaflowne, Love Hina, Outlaw Star...I'm not sure, but I know his group did Bebop and Lain too).

I do know that the two hate each other and of course I have a biased opinion of Nadelman's work from my friend Dave's stories. Given I have never met Nadelman and don't know enough japanese to critique his work, but my friend has told me some pretty bad stuff....(sigh). Oh well...

Wow...weird.

wow ... you guys have some pretty big anime related friends/jobs ... thats pretyt cool ... and i'm just the little shit isolated way off in Brampton ... living in "the reitrement hole".

Uhm...I don't mean to brag (really I don't), but I also have two friends that work for ADV. They were my college anime clubs President and his girlfriend. They did fansubs for our club, so that we could see shows that weren't out here (i.e. Kenshin five years ago, Kare Kano four years ago, etc.). They graduated and I guess their work hasn't gone unnoticed.

I believe the girl has translated: Excel Saga (not sure on this one), Rah Xephon, Noir and a couple video games. Those are the only big ones I remember. The guy does timing and stuff.

If you see Shoko or Feng in the credits...those are my friends.

I'll take it she didn't do that "All your base are belong to us" game ... lol i fail to see how somone bwould be able make it very far with something like that under their belt.

i recently bought Kiki's Delivery Service and after watching it in english (which i always do, just easier that way, but almost always follow up by watching in jap with eng sub)
when i was done, i was messing with the dvd special features and set up and found that the movie was also dubbed in spanish
now i've had plenty of bad experiences with spanish dubbing
they have the worst VA's that i've heard playing the worst roles (voices)
but the kiki spanish dub (after watching about 10 minutes skipping between scenes to compare and contrast) i found that the anime was dubbed pretty good in spanish, i'll post again when i've watched the entire film in all 3 languages to have my full opinion

There is only on thing that urks me when I read about most people that are subtitles only, they speak as if they are better than others for it. Not everyone does it, but there are a good bit that do. I hate meeting new people who are into anime that disrespect me because they find out I watch both subbed and dubbed. The worst ones are the ones that I still have to explain to them what something in an anime mean, then they get insulted that I knew more and act as if what I say is no longer important to them.

This only applies to people who have at some point said:

"I used to watch dubbed but grew out of it and am know for enlightened."

If you have said this shut it.

If you haven't and preffer subbes than where still cool
