i think yoru right, it was problaby homer, or some other greek philosopher. I know it wasn't roman though. But Freude coined the term "odipheus complex" after that story, thats problaby why people think freud came up with it. I think he also did lolita and electra ... not sure, i never studdied psyche.

I say again, the term comes from Freud. He coined it..it's part of his psychosexual theory or something.

However, the actual events (which the theory refers back to) is from Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, a Greek Playright during BC times.

well, there we go, however i have never studdied greek theater, if i took grade 12 university level english rather then college level then i would have done a bit. But i didn't and thus i have never heard of Sophocles untill today.

I guess it's worth a read. I found most Greek plays to be pretty boring. I mean they have meaning and whatnot, but nothing that a few pages couldn't explain

I think read it Sophmore year in HS English, but you've already established that you hate your school and it sucks

I studied Greek Plays as part of Drama so for me they were great fun.
Anyway, gauging your own eyes out because you killed your father and screwed your mother then activly sort out your own conviction kinda has a coolness about it.

I think read it Sophmore year in HS English, but you've already established that you hate your school and it sucks . I'd much rather read Crime & Punishment or the Metamorphasis in Grade 12 English than Oedipus Rex.
