so haomany of you guys are or were music students? I took music in high School for 3 years, ahd to drop it this year for biology, i have no idea why i did that becasue i'll never use that biology credit for anything in my postsecondary eduction. But i'm jsut curious howmany of you guys studied music. Despite my 3 eyars of study, i'm pretyt much tone deaf, i couldn't tell you a F# from a B flat, unless you told me if the notes stayed on, above or below the staff, at which point i'd problaby be able to guess, but not know right off the bat.

Jace, you're misreading the factorisation... it goes from
A^2 - B^2 = AB - B^2
To
(A + B)(A - B) = B(A - B)
Note that the LHS has (sum of A,B) times (difference of A,B).
Otherwise, to continue the discussion... I'm a maths/science student in terms of my university choices but my number one hobby and the one I get the highest grades in is creative writing. I just like to do it as a sideline, not a main focus. I just love writing... My favourite piece is a Kenshin-inspired samurai drama thing, or an anti-war poem I did.

alright, I read one of the sides wrong, they're conjugates. I had two + signs instead of a + and a -.
I guess the factoring is still alright then =/
I just need to think sometimes.
As for being a music major, i havn't really taken any classes, but I study with a lot of musicians that I know. I'm sure if I took the class it'd be easy for me, I always have some one to ask help from.

I'm a senior in Music Composition at KU. I know too damn much about music! And to make matters worse, I have perfect pitch. Meaning if you play any note, I can tell you what that note is without looking. It sounds cool, but it's a curse as well as a blessing; anytime I hear someone playing or singing out of tune, it's literally painful and sometimes causes headaches.Propyro wrote:so haomany of you guys are or were music students?

thats what it's called ... perfect ptich ... well i can see how it can be a curse and a blessing, but still it would be nice if i could do that, i heard that there's ways of training your ears to develop it, but i never got that far, i only have grade 11 music, i don't hink i'm going to study it in school any more, though i love playing my guitar, great thing to do when your bored out of your skull.
But if your good at math, exspecialy doing quick mental math playing music is pretty easy (my mental math is terrible). Me, i can't count, exspecialy when theres long rests. I usualy either depend on another tenor who can actualy count, or i listen for cues from sections that have a similar piece to mine, usualy thats trombone. But any ways, i;m a shitty musician, who chokes when put under pressure and dosn't get to practice often enough.
