Forgotten legends...

Al DiMeola, first few solo albums and with Chick Corea's Return To Forever.
e.g. "Flight Over Rio", "Race With Devil on Spanish Highway", "Dark Eye Tango"

Steve Hackett, ex-Genesis
e.g. "Firth of Fifth" or "Time Lapse at Milton Keynes"

Carlos Santana, maybe Steve Howe, are other possibilities for "legend" status.

Oh, not forgotten!

Santana, Howe, Hackett and DiMeola all get a nod from me. Generally though, I find Howe and Hackett's work was much better with their respective Legendary Bands than on their own. Same, from my point of view, is the case with Floyd's Gilmour.

Santana and Dimeola, on the other hand, I do find lots better on their own.

Another influential player not to be forgotten is Ritchie Blackmore. Did I mention him yet? Certianly, in the rock stream, one of the most influential figures ever.

Ah yes, I forgot Ritchie Blackmore. Have you heard his Blackmore's Night stuff? I like it quite a bit.
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

No, haven't heard Night I think... I've heard a bit of his solo stuff which was, in some respect, bad, and some that's not so bad.
In general, Blackmore is just massively influential. You have whole generations of guys, from Brian May to Joe Satriani who definitely were directly influenced by his playing.
In terms of influential guitarists, the three top ones I'd have to name off would be Jimi, Blackmore, and John McLaughlin.

Anyways, moving on...

well, sure, I'm not gonna argue with the above-mentioned influences. Just that, since most people went up with their favorites, I put up mine too. There's really more world-class guitarists out there than you can shake a stick at...
