Uhh, exactly who approached them about this panel. I'd advise you to back out. No, it's not because I'm afraid of any competition or anything, so don't even start with that. Supanova/Comicfest (same thing) is evil, possibly more evil than AX (well nothing could be that evil, but).
In fact Supanova is so evil and not con-like, the other conventions (AVCon, Manifest, Animania) refuse to accept the thing as even being a convention.
There are many reasons. (From here on bold is either crap, or important)
- Supanova Pop Culture Expo 2003
Sci-fi/Fantasy (I like Stargate as much as the next person, but)
Animation (meh, very DBZ oriented)
Comics (need I say more)
Cards and Games(OK, I've experimented with L5R, only once I swear)
Music (Pepsi Taste Test?, Pepsi Band?)
DBZ Kame-hame-ha blast-off competition
Madman Cosplay Competition
Anime Anytime Karaoke... companies running events?
Guests
Sean Schemmel - (Goku)
Debi Derryberry (Jimmy Neutron, Ryoki(?))
Mary Oyaya (Jedi Master Luminara Unduli)
Not to mention the stir it made on the Madman forums when, someone mentioned that there would be one. Talking to License holders about AMVs = SUPER BAD, the follwing logic will explain...
AMVs are illegal, there's no denying that.
License holders have copywrites that they have to protect, or they lose them
If you ask about AMVs they will say no
Companies know. They aren't stupid, only turning a blind eye to.
Therefore Don't tell them, they won't stop you
Sorry about that, I know it's been discussed over and over again, don't continue the illegal crap
In closing I don't know who told them about an AMV panel. If they really want to do one this badly, it's a much better idea (in the long run) to go through the uni clubs and start a convention through them on your own.
If anyone who has read this would also like to make a discouraging post, please do so.
