I know that with the VAT room a lot of creators are going to be spending most, if not all, of their time in there and the various panels and so that makes that room a great gathering place throughout the con. But it looks like an outside the con dinner is desired as well. I find that to be a good idea myself since it gives us a chance to meet just fellow AMV creators.
I suggest we look at planning multiple AMV creator gatherings given everyone has a different schedule. An early gathering on Thursday evening would be real nice since the fanboys won't be around in force and it gives those of you from out of town something to do. We'll probably need to do something on either Friday or Saturday as well for those with tight con schedules. Problem with that is planning something around the events at the con we want to attend. A final gathering on Sunday for those staying late could be nice too but I don't know how wiped everyone will be.
We also have the problem of nothing near the con hotel but the dreaded Ruby Tuesdays. A gathering there on Thursday or Sunday evening could work but anything on Friday or Saturday would require some creative planning.
Here's a couple of ideas I'd like to propose. One, let's see how many cars we'll have among us. If we can arrange for 1 car for every 5 creators (unless someone owns a large van or bus or something) then we can feasibly leave the hotel for an outside restaurant. There are some nice places to have an AMV gathering just 10-15 minutes from the hotel (yes, there really isn't anything near the airport hotels). Two, if we can't do enough cars then maybe a few people could pick up some non-hotel/Ruby Tuesday food and we could do some kind of picnic at the hotel. Three, we could also look at a gathering in an AMV creator dominated hotel room late one evening.
It would be really cool if we could reserve the VAT for an hour or two just for AMV creators and use that as a gathering but that'll never happen (and probably just as well). But we can do some cool stuff with whatever we choose to do (anyone else have a laptop?). Shoot out your ideas and suggestions and let's see what we can do. I know that AWA isn't for another 7 weeks but pre-reg has come and gone and most everyone coming in out of town has already started if not finalized travel plans. Besides, we'll probably need every day to get organized knowing this crowd
