Actually It's not that bad I never liked Ranmas original dub voice because it was a girl trying to do a mans voice. The newer dub voice sounds more like the japanese voice. But since I've never considered watching Ranma subbed I think of the japanese voice as Inu yashas Its the same actor.

Ok...I just want to go on record as saying, I kind of like Funimation's dub of DBZ and DB to an extent...but their dub of DBGT...my ears...make the burning stop!!!
Besides the awful new theme song, the voices just seem to sound INCREDIBLY annoying this time around (esp. Pan)
This could be just me though

Gatekeepers 21 comes to mind... it was so ba it was funny...... but this is a serious series! I was watching the DVD and wanted to cry. Bad acting bad direction, bad translation..... and for awhile I was thinking Pioneer was at least making more endurable dubs. Anyone who dares ask go to www.gatekeepers21.com and download the set of clips they have offered. Worst thing is they went all out and gave it a 5.1 Dolby Surround Audio mix for both English and japanese tracks (which rocks) but they decided to do a hasty awful job on actually making it watchable in English. A great show though.
Macross..... the king of the monotone dub. I mean, it sounds like half the cast had just awoke from a coma. Can't watch it without wanting to doze off.
Weiss Kreuz was up and down awful. The cast here came off as taking the job as a joke. I don't think one member of this cast is at all believable.
And one I am surprised hasn't gotten more jeers yet is Fushigi Yugi. Everyone came off as far over the top and serious moments became absurd without fail.
the first Akira dub. The Jersey accents had to go and the translation made absolutely no sense as much of the last 45 minutes of the movie consisted of shouts of Kanada, Tetsuo and Akira. I will definitely say they got it much better the second time around as they got much of the cast spot on and it came off as making some sense.
Evangelion can be forgiven for being an early dub for ADV but it really had some awful direction and acting.

Let's see...The early DBZ dub was pretty bad, in my opinion, but the worst, absolute WORST dub I have seen is Kenshin. It's a very good show, and I'm itching to get my mitts on some subs, but what they did to it was...wow. I can't describe it. The WK dub was also pretty nasty, as well as the YYH movie (Poltergeist Report) and the other OVA they released in the US. The dubs voices didn't match the characters at all. *sweatdrop*
I actually got to meet the guy who does male Ranma's dub, Richard Ian Cox. He was funny, and pretty cool. ^_^ Also got to see one of the producer/directors for Viz's release of the Ranma anime.

I don't think that the Kenshin dub is that terrible. Kenshin's English voice works well and the words don't match the mouth, but what else is so bad about the dub?
It isn't as bad as the Inu-Yasha dub or the Candidate for Goddess dub!

Let me answer that:shocker wrote:I don't think that the Kenshin dub is that terrible. Kenshin's English voice works well and the words don't match the mouth, but what else is so bad about the dub?
1) he sounds stupid
2) when he TRIES to sound cool, he sounds even stupider
3) Sano
4) Yahiko
5) Saitoh
6) Aoshi
7) Soujirou (did this one HORRIBLY...made him sound like 5 y/o tryinig to sound all raspy).
8) Shishio
9) EVERYONE ELSE
BTW I'm not trying to be mean...I honestly HATED every voice in this dub and thought they were horrible and not even 20% the representation of the original voices (that they are trying to emulate).

Kenshin
Again my biggest problem with the Kenshin dub...
Kenshin's voice is to masculine. In Japan he's voice is done by a girl, and this is because it's an important aspect of the character. (It's in the Manga and everything). Kenshin is SUPPOSE to sound and look like a girl, and why in contrast it's surprising that he's the 'ultimate' killer. That's the problem with the Kenshin Dub. They lost sight of a core characteristic of the character.
Oh and I'm posting here as I just heard an Awlful dub! The Maze dub. Oh my I wanted to kill myself. "Where is Sister-Brother?" Please someone slap that girl.

I know people who complain the original track is horrible since he sounds so femine, but at the same time..he was meant to be that way. Hell, even look at his body frame and facial features and hair. The female voice actor does an EXCELLENT job of conveying this and at the same time stil sounding similar to a male. Also she is talented enough that the differentiation between battousai and kenshin is evident. The dub the guy just tries to get raspy and deeper. It still sounds like the same person.
