Chances are that about 1/4 of what you read was a misinterpretation of what really happened. When it comes to something as intricate as Eva, don't believe anything that you haven't seen for yourself. Also remember:I've read enough web sites to completely spoil the series as well as EoE for me
(1) Rei isn't really a clone of Shinji's mom (though there are many clones of Rei). (2) A scene that was scripted but never animated would have shown Rei alive and well after her first supposed "death". (3) After her second supposed "death," Rei vaguely remembers crying, which she'd done just prior to trying to blow herself up, which is the kind of thing that causes memory loss... (4) Just because Ritsuko is boring and in charge doesn't mean she knows what the hell she is talking about. (5) ASUKA WAS BORED! ACCEPT IT ALREADY, YOU FUCKING MORONS! Sorry, that wasn't aimed at you. (6) The brains inside the MAGI are not the actual brains of Ritsuko's actual mother. That brain got splattered all over the Geo-Front. The MAGI use momma's personality implanted onto someone else's brains (7) The big white thing nailed to the cross in Terminal Dogma is Lillith, not Adam. Adam got moved from the petri dish straight to Gendo's hand, though this was only seen in the Director's Cut, which is unavailable in the US. (8) I'm still looking for the part of EOE where Shinji is presented with any kind of choice during Third Impact. (9) Just because Shinji and Asuka are the only people shown at the end doesn't mean they're the only people left on the face of the Earth. (10) Don't try to make any sense of the last half of EOE. You won't succeed.
