All this Caldwell info should listed under the org's FAQ or maybe even as a guide if you want to take it farther.

I agree this does come off like a stalker report and has nothing to do with putting an end to Kevin Caldwell threads. It is heavily biased and perpetuates the idea that Kevin is a god. Kevin is a great amv creator, but if this is going to be posted as a resource for all amv creators to read it should be a tad bit more impartial. Sorry, but this does sound like a stalker fanboy… you love Kevin’s work and that is great and I enjoy a lot of his work as well, but this document is way over the top. I think a document or profile on who Kevin Caldwell is would be a very useful thing for people who are interested in finding out more about the myth and the man, but this one isn’t it imho. I applaud your zeal and effort, but I feel the document tries to add to the so called cult of Kevin that even you belong. I would love to read this again if it were more impartial / factual versus your admittedly fanatical opinion of Kevin and his work.

If you know of someone (besides Kevin himself) who could shed more light on what has happened in the past, that information would be very helpful as well.

Well my point was that the document reads like 85% opinion 15% factual information... I just think it should be a tad bit more impartial or be seen as an opinion piece laced with facts. As far as the speculation in this document, that is just what it is and to everything there are two sides... even one that involves an award that Kevin won at AX99. Anyway, I have a much greater deal of respect for Kevin and still would have liked to have seen him continue since I felt his last two videos were more like his Magnetic Rose and Classical Eva videos which I think are his best works. I hope you understand my point more clearly now and feel that Lee and Brad would be very good resources as to who Kevin is since they knew him.

uhm...no it won't and no it should not. He went through publicly accessable internet files like Usenet, read through them and interpretted the information he could gather. You pretty much do the same thing for any type of professional research, though the sources may differ.

Macedon might also have written a biased interpretation, but personally, I don't know why so many of you are getting your panties in a wad over this. I don't want to argue about this next bit, so sit and stew if you feel I'm insulting you somehow. Anywho, several of the "anti-Macedon" posts read more like reactionary knee jerk arguments more the result of a bruised ego or jealousy than any real sense of protecting Kevin's privacy.

And that's my take on it.

Greetings to all on this forum. I don't have a regular internet connection at home, so I just checked this out now. Well, lesse if I can reply to the different posts made, and try to save some face while I'm at it.
1. Pie Row Maniac: seems Phade et. al. are going to correct some mistakes (I already know there are one or two minor ones in there), edit it, etc. and turn it into a guide/FAQ. As far as I am concerned, I am not really going to do much more with this. Not enough time really. (For all those curious, this took me a few hours to google in the evening, and then write up the doc.)
2. MaboroshiStudio: I am not going to argue the point that the doc is biased; I acknowledge your criticism. I do want to say that it does include a non-trivial amount of relavent information about the topic. I just didn't want to make it a dry 123 bullet point summary, and I was in the writing mood anyways. I also honestly think that my report does NOT add to the myth/cult of Caldwell. I think the majority of mystery/cult of personality stems from a lack of knowledge about what was going on. I am sure that no one here is dumb enough to actually not see through my bias to the facts, whose effect is to make things more earthly, to resolve questions, and to whisk away superstition. Besides, my writing skills are nowhere near powerful enough to weild as a propaganda tool, and it is unlikely anyone will suddenly baptize themselves into the Chruch of KC just because of it.
3. BahamutGod, yes I bet those guys know alot about KC, so that would be interesting.
4. TaranT: I share your doubt that KC would want any sort of interview with anyone about this stuff.
5. OmniSatra: =] Does the handle of that person start with K? =]

USENET/yahoo.com posts by Kevin himself (check the doc and read them: you will be amazed how much is there, for example his age) or by someone who was at the Con's that Kevin showed his videos at. 2. Web pages by people who know about the videos, or quite possibly were at the cons themselves 3. animemusicvideos.org forum, alot of this information coming from your posts. Considering the sources I used, NONE of this information is personal. ALL of it deals with his career as an AMV maker. Do I mention his daily habits? Do I mention if he has a girlfriend? No. I did come across his address, phone number, and email on the net (this is how I knew he was single, since the phone dir. registered it so). This should not surprise you. As far as stalking: I am NOT a stalker. Do you see me following him around ala Mark Chapman (think John Lennon here)? I don't see how scraping information on the net (alot of which Kevin HIMSELF posted) is equivalent to spying on the day to day activities of a person, or following them around, or harassing him through the phone/email/etc. I did NOT post the contact information I found, and I did NOT use it for anything, altough it would be trivial for me to copy/paste his email, phone, address, and mapquest link to his house at the bottom of this post. So, sir, no, I am not breaking the law, and more importantly, I am acting in a way completely in harmony with all morals: no harassment is going on, no defamation is going on, nothing. Would Kevin be offended if he found out about this? Perhaps. However, that does not neccessarily implicate me in wrongdoing or immoral behaviour because, like I said above, all of the information posted is completely legit and just of historical value. Well, you ask, what if he is upset not by the information, but just by the sheer fact that someone is doing this? That is his issue completely: he does not have any high ground in asking all of us to forget him and never say his name again. That is one of the downsides of fame: it is no one's fault. Putting myself in his shoes, I would simply be surprised. (In fact, if you want to do this out of spite, you can look me up at www.utexas.edu directory, just using boulgak as a search term.) It would be another issue alltogether if the information posted would contain personal tidbits or papparazzi photo shots. Again, if this topic makes you sick, don't click on threads where you know Kevin is going to show up. Sorry.
