It was either Street Fighter 2 the animated movie on VHS or Slayers vol. 1 on VHS. I really can't remember since I started collecting anime when I was like 15 or 16, and I'm now 22 and I have an insanely large collection now. Man... I could have bought a brand new car had it not been for the existance of anime. Oh well.

I'd known of the genre for a long time but never got into it until Cartoon Network first showed Tenchi Muyo about three years ago. Since moved on to many many more things, but that was the first series I bought on VHS. Cowboy Bebop was the first I bought on DVD, about a year or so before CN started showing that.
Say what you will about Cartoon network mangling a lot of shows (and they do), but they've really increased anime's exposure in the States I think, and that's probably a good thing in the long run.

The first anime I ever watched was the Unico movies when I was in elementary and then Sailormoon when I was in high school. But my first actual subbed anime was Slayers, which has stayed my favorite. Around the same time(about 5 years ago) I also saw Tenchi, Yoma:Curse of the Undead(another of my favs), Sol Bianca, Plastic Little, and Irresponsible Captain Tylor(I love this one too!). Now I try to only watch subbed anime, but being broke by spending all my money on manga I tend to watch whats on CN, oh well.
Who needs reality? Anime is much more fun!!
