Another good point there- I've seen more than one great costume in my con experiences. Some have been, in fact, fantastic. The vast majority of cosplayers are not overweight, from what I've seen, and even some that are often have not-too-bad costumes too.§_Akuma_§ wrote:im just going to go back to the first page and respond to something interesting.Serpico wrote:the only person allowed to cosplay is Onizuka...other than that humans should not, unless they actually look good as the character they are degrading..they never do though =[
"unless they actualy look good"??
my friend, you obviously have not seen any anime con doc's ^_^

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Ummm, yeah the earliest reference I can think of to the word "otaku" is "Otaku no Video" and that's something like 20 years old.
Grrr. let me put it simply. If you can agree that you are a geek, then the use of the word otaku is appropriate. However I find myself referring to myself as a geek/fanboy more and more as otaku becomes some kind of elitist-title-thing and people get confused.
Secondly Serpico has never been to an anime convention. If he has he sure needs to work on how he gets his message across with words.
It's more likely that a friend (if they could possibly have any) showed him a website with nothing but ugly/fat crossplayers. And he somehow felt obliged to tell this forum about it.
Final statement: This thread is going to the coll room, Bears do your thing!

I used to be a hyperactive 12-year-old who didn't like other people to call animes 'cartoons'. Today I still get mad when my boyfriend calls Yu Yu a cartoon. I don't consider myself as an otaku in the negative sense, though. As for the cosplay, I agree with you on that. Once I had urges to dress up as Sailormoon and such(back when I was 12) and then I had a long talk with myself. Then I found out other people gathered together and did it; I saw the yucky pictures and almost hit myself for even thinking about doing it! If people want to horrify others its their choice, but I wouldn't want to make my favorite show look that bad.

ok screw reading all this ... i have no idea what i am ... i don't know if i'm an otaku or not ... lets look at it like this ... i'm 18 ... i live in my room or infront of my computer, i'm very antisocial, i love good anime, and generaly loath hentai mockeries of good series (love hina and Eva come to mind) ... i only have a few friends, i don't cosplay, actuialy i've never been to a con ... my odds of getting a date are pretty much nill, but thats probably only because i make it like that ... some how. I find myself to be quite ugly, i've heard other wise from other people, but i don't really trust their judgment and think they were jsut sympathizing with me. my hair is impossible to deal with. and so on.
