Yeah
I was hoping ADV would grab this one myself...

In an interview a LONG while ago, the founders of ADV said,

"An anime isn't good unless the main character's feminine form is depicted naked more than once..."

What do you know? They're one of the biggest, if not THE biggest seller of anime in America now... Gee, I wonder why? Very good dubs (though I think Media Blasters is the God of dubbing) A nice mix of series (comedy to fantasy to serious) Long experience [they've been here since 199X [a long time more maybe... I'm not too sure...]

FUNIMATION WITH KIDDY GRADE? DID THEY GET TRICKED BY TITLE AS DID I?!?!?!?!?!

It'd be funny for kids to want to see this series thinking it looked cool and parents thought the title was a "safe guess"... LOL

Umm... if you're knockin' the translations in "Fruits Basket," you're knockin' a guy who not only has a degree in the language, but someone who's spent a few years over there in Japan, someone who's been a fan of anime longer than some people on this site have been alive, one of the only translators with the knowledge and expertise to put reflections of different accents into the translations...

Steven J. Simmons is not only a friend, but one of the best damn translators out there.

EVERYTHING other than "DragonBall" that FUNimation has done, lately, has been fantastic. I think if *I* (the king of FUNimation hating for years upon years) can get over it and move on... casual fans can do the same.

Yeah, and I bet its largest audience in Japan was men over 30.

I am sorry but there is no point to having kun, chan and such and such in subtitles. It adds nothing to the subtitles and makes it look unprofessional. It makes it look like a 15 year old fangirl's fanfiction and that is bad. Granted the subs are more accurate than some *cough* most things translated by Anna Exter*cough* but there is a line between being accurate and being gratuitously fanboyish in execution. What works in Japanese does not necessarily work in English and that was the fault of Funi in the Fruits Basket sub. Do remember some otaku no not a single word of Japanese... just because you and I understand it doesn't measn my pals who I struggle to get to watch subs at all will have a clue.

And their dub for Fruits Basket was decent except it seemed to have watered down some of the um, more questionable content. That is Funi's motto is they can't possibly leave a show entirely intact.

And Funi has done rancid jobs with much of their stuff. Yu Yu whatever, (I forget how to spell it) sounds autrocious dubbed. I mean this is a trend with them. The Lupin movies I think are kinda average. A bit of a hit and miss with some voices. And again, Fruits basket was a good dub job in most respects except fro the deliberate toning down of questionable content.

Now this leaves me to wonder exactly what Kiddie Grade will be edited because there is a lot of sexual tones in there and that is the most liekly thing Funi would manipulate.

Set in the future where several galazy colonies exist, Kiddy Grade follows the inner workings of the Galactic Organization of Trade and Tariffs (GOTT). GOTT was formed about 160 years ago to oversee universal economic imbalance, arbitrate disputes, and negotiate contracts and treaties between planets. Clients pay GOTT for various services ranging from scoping out illegal materials to escorting a high profile person or document to its designated location. On the job are 2 ES members, Éclair and Lumiere, who stand ready and willing to do what’s necessary to complete their tasks.

Éclair is one of the most powerful cyborgs created, although her data has been erased and rewritten so many times, that she has an innocent, childlike presence to her. Lumiere is a hacker cyborg and can get into and control a number of systems through merely touching the control panel. Together, they follow the orders of GOTT Commander Eclipse as best as they can, although sometimes they get help from a variety of other GOTT members.

That maybe so but there's a LOT of collateral property damage...

^_^

What's wrong with sexiness and violence put together? It's not like it's NOT going to sell... People in general love this stuff. (Though I prefer stuff that's more "substantial" I like this kind of thing every so often.)

However, at 2 seasons in length, I gotta say, I'm questioning how they're gonna release the DVDs. 4 or more eps per dvd? hmm...
If it's like 2-3 per DVD, uh uh, I'm chuckin' my digisubs into the trash...
