New Anime Sucks?
What is your opinion of newer Animes such as Tsukikage Ran - Carried by the Wind, and Read or Die vs. older anime like Ranma ½, Neon genesis or Macross Plus.

That isn’t what I am after.
I have a friend that liked Ranma, Macross, Neon, Handmaid Mat, Trigun, Hellsing, etc. and watched R.O.D., and Tsukikage Ran (Carried by the Wind) and said both were crap and not worth watching. He said they both had horrible animation and stupid story lines and weren’t worth watching.

Well like Sarah said, you can't really generalize ALL animes like this, but I will tell you known trends within anime. Anime is cylical in nature. Generally there are a lot of great shows that come out next to each other and then ruts for a few years. I *hear* it's b/c after one creator comes out with a great show, it motivates the others to make something.
I hate to say it, but some (elitists ) say we're in that glut period right now. Basically from the periods 1995 - 2000 is the "good" part.
-Evangelion (1996?)
-Escaflowne (1996)
-Kenshin (1996 - 1998?)
-Trigun (1998)
-Cowboy Bebop (1999)
-FLCL (2000?)
and I'm sure I'm missing some, but you get my point, so please no flames .
At the same time, I have not seen any "new" anime, so I can't comment on these shows you are talking about. I am only stating trends that a lot of fans talk about. For all I know they could all be wonderful .

Ok this is retarded totally. Did you mean which anime are funnier? I just don't get it. Ok lets take a look at Inu Yasha. Inu Yasha is a standard Rumiko Takahashi series it could be made today or it could be made in 1986 every character in it is a clone of one of her older characters. Personally I think Robotech is utter crap at least dubbed. But at the same time period Captain harlock SSJ was on and alot of other great anime. Are you asking if read or die as good as Ranma 1/2? Well I think most people would agree that Ranma kicks Read or dies ass. To put a little more in perspective here are the release years of some of my top favortie series.
1.Star blazers -1974
2.Urusei Yatsura(lum)- 1982
3.Ranma -1989
4.Tenchi muyo- 1991
5.Slayers -1994
6.Azumanga Daioh-2002

Well I'm inclined to say that a lot of the new anime I've been seeing is pretty pathetic. Either that, or the AJAS series choosers aren't doing a very good job.
GITS:SAC (getting old now)
Witch Hunter Robin (also getting old)
Kaze no Yojimbo (I don't know how old this is... visually it's not much to look at, but in the story/comedy department, it's all there)
A lot of the newer stuff has just been utter shight. I can't name titles... they've been things I've been trying to put behind me. Of course this could all be a result of overly high standards that Azumanga Daioh has left in me.
